Nagy opening statement vs. North Dakota State
Offensively in the first half, we were so bad. Just a ton
and ton of standing around. In the second half we got moving and shot 51
percent. We played better and I don't have any answers as to why we stood so
much in the second half. I talked about adrenaline and being too high and what
it does. It just sucks the energy right out of you and I felt like that
happened to our kids. We had plenty of chances to win the game. So strange
things happened. If we just made some free throws. I was proud of our kids, the
way they came back. I just told them after the game, I don't have anything to
say to make it feel better. Life's tough. It just is. Is tough and it's going
to be tough the rest for the rest of their lives and they better get used to it
and be able to deal with it.
Lack of energy
I didn't see anything before the game. Like I said, just the adrenaline early. I was pleased with how our kids fought and played in the second half and gave good effort. I don't have any problem with the effort of our kids. I thought that they played hard.
Fouls
It's hard to have a good flow to it. You just have to adjust. You have to get your hands off of people. It didn't seem like either team adjusted. A lot of foul outs.
Free Throws
They made most of their free throws late and we missed two key ones, obviously, in the first overtime that hurt us. There are so many plays that you can go back to and say “that one hurt you “, so it wasn't just free throws. We could have put it away in the first overtime with free throws. 75 percent. You take that most times.
NDSU Free throw getting stuck at the end of regulation
You're not going to see that the rest of the year. One time in all the games, I don't know if I have ever, ever, ever seen that. No, I don't feel snake bitten. I don't believe in that stuff. There were plenty of opportunities to win that game.
The SDSU seniors never beating NDSU
Just what I told you. Life is tough. The only people that are counting that stuff (losing streak vs. NSDU) are you guys. Our players aren't in there counting and going … I can tell you all the years that I have been here, that when we had streaks or didn't have streaks, we never talked about that. The players never talked about it. The coaches never talked about it. It's just the next game, that's the deal. It's not like I have to go and console my seniors because of whatever. Like I said, life is tough. That's just the way it is. They are going to have a lot worse things happen to them in life then not beating NDSU. They will be fine and be able to get by. The way things are shaping up, we might played them again. Who knows?
Next week on the road
Now we will really find out what we are made of. This will be good for our team. I think we will have a good week of practice and I think we will be fine. We have good leadership, I won't have to say a lot and we will be ready to go. I bet we will play well at Oakland
