12/22/2014 7:32:00 PM | Men's Basketball
SDSU needed the extra five minutes to beat Idaho State, 75-72, in the opener on Thursday, then beat Bakersfield 53-49 on Friday, and then downed the host Utah State Aggies 68-65 in overtime on Saturday in the tournament finale.
The Jackrabbits led by 15 points with less than six minutes to play against the Aggies, but surrendered the final 15 points of regulation, which tied the game at 61 and sent it to overtime. The Jacks scored the first seven points in the OT, five of them from Deondre Parks, and held off an Aggie charge at the end to win the game, and the tournament.
In addition to bringing home a trophy from the World Vision Classic, the Jacks handed the Aggies their first loss at a home tournament in 50 games, a streak dating back to 1971.
TONIGHT'S OPPONENT
UTAH RUNNIN' UTES (8-2, 6-0 Home): After posting a 21-12 overall mark and a 9-9 mark in Pac-12 play last season, good for an eighth place finish in the conference, the Pac-12 preseason media poll picked the Runnin' Utes to finish second this season behind perennial power Arizona.
Ranked 25th in the preseason AP Top-25 poll, Utah fell out of the poll in week three, but returned the next week and then climbed as high as 13th in the poll before falling back one spot to No. 14 for the last two weeks.
