South Dakota State played its first ranked opponent on Tuesday at No. 14 Utah since taking on No. 6 Michigan in the second round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament. The Jackrabbits lost both of those games, and hope to avoid the same outcome on Sunday, when they play at No. 23 Northern Iowa in the final non-conference game of the season at 2 p.m.
The Jacks enter Sunday's game after seeing their seven game winning streak come to an end on Tuesday in an 80-66 loss at No 14 Utah in Salt Lake City. SDSU hung with the Runnin' Utes for the first 15 minutes of the game, and even led for a spell in the first half, but the Utes closed the half on a 19-4 run and never let the Jacks close the gap to single digits.
Cody Larson led a trio of Jackrabbits in double figures with 13 points, which included his first-career 3-pointer, he also led the Jacks with six rebounds. Reed Tellinghuisen added a dozen points off the bench, while Zach Horstman scored 10 points.
