BROOKINGS, S.D. – South Dakota State closed the non-conference portion of its schedule with a 74-63 loss at No. 23 Northern Iowa on Sunday, the second straight loss for the Jackrabbits against a ranked opponent after falling at No. 14 Utah on Dec. 23.
The Jacks now turn their attention to Summit League play, and enter their first game of league play at Denver with a 9-5 record. The Jacks and Pioneers, who enter league play with a 6-7 record, tip on Friday at 8 p.m. MT, 7 p.m. CT, inside Magness Arena.
SDSU won the last meeting at Denver, an improbable 74-73 victory that saw the Jacks erase a 10-point deficit over the last 10 minutes of the game, which included a pair of clutch Jordan Dykstra 3-pointers late in the game.
Dykstra, who went scoreless in the first half of the game, scored 14 of his team-high 18 points over the last 2 minutes, 51 seconds to secure the Jackrabbit win.
TONIGHT'S OPPONENT
DENVER PIONEERS (6-7, 0-0 Summit): The Pioneers finished fourth in their first season in The Summit League last year, but garnered 12 first place votes in the 2014-15 preseason poll, where they came in just behind league favorite Fort Wayne.
Denver opens league play following a dramatic overtime win at home over Saint Joseph's on Monday in Denver.
THE SERIES vs. DENVER
SDSU leads the all-time series 6-4 after sweeping the season series last year, which includes an improbable 74-73 come-from-behind win in Denver on Jan. 30, 2014 and a 78-69 win on Feb. 27, 2014 at Frost Arena.
