The long road trip started with three wins at the World Vision Classic, hosted by Utah State. The event also included the long-awaited debut of junior transfer George Marshall, who didn't disappoint in winning tournament MVP honors. The Jacks opened the event with a 75-72 overtime win over Idaho State, downed Bakersfield by a 53-49 score in the second game, and then beat the host Aggies 68-65 in overtime in the championship game.
Along with winning a trophy, the Jackrabbits snapped a 50-game Utah State winning streak in home tournaments, dropping the Aggies to 51-2 all-time in home tournaments. Cody Larson joined Marshall on the all-tournament team.
The Jackrabbits then traveled to Salt Lake City to take on No. 14 Utah, but came up short against the Utes, which snapped a seven game winning streak and started a the current four game skid.
For the first time in school history, the Jacks played ranked opponents in consecutive games when they played at No. 23 Northern Iowa on Dec. 28. From there, SDSU opened league play last Friday with a loss at Denver, followed by a loss at North Dakota State on Sunday.
