INDIANAPOLIS -- Chris Angerhofer, Ben Bolinske and Wyatt Rumrill set individual school records on the final day of competition Saturday at the 2016 Summit League Men's Swimming and Diving Championships, leading South Dakota State to a third-place finish in the team standings.
Angerhofer, a junior from Sioux Falls, lowered his own record in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 15 minutes, 50.77 seconds and his 1,000-yard split of 9:3205 also set a school record. Angerhofer placed fifth in the event and was followed by teammates Weston Christensen, eighth in 16:18.25, and Thomas Davey, 11th in 16:37.89.
Bolinske, a senior from Williston, North Dakota, broke his own standard in the 100 freestyle on three different occasions Saturday. He clocked a record time of time 44.88 seconds in the morning preliminaries, then tied for third place in the finals with a time of 44.53 seconds. In the final event of the meet, Bolinske led off the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 44.39 seconds in helping the Jackrabbits set another school record with a time of 2:59.62, teaming with Pierce Oja, Tony Mikrut and Daniel Jacobson for a third-place finish.
Jacobson also swam in the individual finals of the 100 freestyle, placing eighth in 45.15 seconds. Mikrut was 11th in 46.04 seconds and Oja placed 16th in :46.96.
A freshman from Pierre, Rumrill erased one of the longest-standing records in program history by posting a third-place time of 2:01.31 in the 200 breaststroke. The previous record of 2:02.64 was set by Chad Thomsen in 2007.
Josh DeDina and Geoffrey Longhurst swam in the consolation finals of the 200 breaststroke, placing 12th and 14th with respective times of 2:07.19 and 2:10.02.
The SDSU men set 12 school records over the course of the four-day meet. Nine Jackrabbits received all-Summit League honors.
Three other Jackrabbits swam in event finals on Saturday. Chase Petersen and Matthew Carpenter placed seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 200 backstroke with times of 1:52.27 and 1:54.00. Senior Garth Wadsworth closed out his SDSU career by placing fifth in the 200 butterfly, 1:51.47, which was the second-fastest time in program history.
Denver again claimed the team title, racking up 975.5 points to out-distance the six-team field. Host IUPUI was second with 642.5 points, followed by SDSU with 529.5.
