SIOUX FALLS — First-year swimmers Gigi Hioki and Poppy Mead combined for five top-three performances to lead the South Dakota State women's swimming and diving team Saturday in the finale of the Coyote Invite at Midco Aquatic Center. The unscored meet marked the final regular season competition for the Jackrabbits.

Hioki, a native of Liberty Lake, Washington, turned in runner-up finishes in two of the more grueling events. She clocked a second-place time of 17 minutes, 30.40 seconds in the 1,650-yard freestyle and added a silver placing in the 200 butterfly with a mark of 2:08.06. Hioki also notched a third-place finish in the 100 butterfly in 57.78 seconds.

Mead, from Derby, England, added a runner-up finish in the 400 individual medley by posting a time of 4:46.11, with Kelsey Kocon taking fourth in 4:47.92. Mead closed her individual event program with a third-place effort in the 200 butterfly, finishing right behind Hioki in 2:09.00.

Hioki and Mead also swam on SDSU's third-place 400 freestyle relay, teaming with fellow freshmen Izzy Cox and Lily Esmas for a time of 3:39.19.

Esmas added an individual runner-up showing of her own in the 200 backstroke, 2:07.71. Redshirt freshman Maven Moore was third in 2:08.16.

Also recording a top-three individual performance was sophomore Jenna Currier, who took third in the 200 breaststroke (2:28.93).
 UP NEXT
The Jackrabbits will be in training for the next two weeks before competing in the Summit League Swimming and Diving Championships Feb. 21-24 in Minneapolis.
