SIOUX FALLS — Five South Dakota State swimmers — three men and two women — were honored Wednesday as members of the Summit League Swimming and Diving Academic All-League teams. Selections to the honor squads are determined by a vote among the league's sports information directors and faculty athletics representatives.
The Jackrabbit contingent was paced by three-time selections Katie Pattee in the women's division and Luke Nichols on the men's side. A senior from Farmington, Minnesota, Pattee has maintained a perfect 4.0 grade-point average throughout her collegiate career while majoring in mechanical engineering. She also was honored as a Co-Scholar of the Championship at last month's Summit League Swimming and Diving Championships.
Nichols carries a 3.91 GPA as a civil engineering major. He is a senior from North Liberty, Iowa.
Also representing the SDSU women's squad was repeat honoree Jenna Currier. A junior from Denison, Iowa, Currier has compiled a 3.97 GPA as a mathematics and data science major.
Completing the list of Jackrabbit honorees were junior Braxton McGrath and sophomore Kolden Kringen. A repeat selection to the men's squad, McGrath holds a 3.81 GPA as a mechanical engineering, while Kringen was honored for the first time after posting a 4.0 GPA as a psychology and pre-law major.
To be eligible for the Academic All-League team, student-athletes must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions.
