SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – South Dakota State men's basketball senior
Oscar Cluff was recognized with a variety of awards on Tuesday as The Summit League announced its individual honors for the 2024-25 season.
Cluff was chosen as a First Team All-Summit League performer. He also was picked to the conference's All-Defensive Team and All-Newcomer Team. His efforts during the league schedule rewarded him with The Summit League Newcomer of the Year award.
The Sunshine Coast, Aus., native was the team leader over the course of 16 conference games averaging 17.6 points, 13.0 rebounds and 3.1 assists. He also recorded 16 blocks, had a 59.9% clip shooting and was 76% at the free throw line.
Cluff was the leading rebounder in the conference and was sixth in both scoring and assists. The SDSU center recorded 12 double-doubles which included his career-high single-game outputs of 30 points and 20 rebounds during the league slate. His 135 total defensive rebounds were nearly 40 more than the second-place individual in Player of the Year Marquel Sutton of Omaha. Cluff also spearheaded a Jackrabbit team that was second in the conference in scoring defense which gave up 75.1 points per game.
During the course of the entire season, Cluff currently ranks in a tie for first nationally in double-doubles (21), is second in rebounds per game (12.2) and is eighth in field goal percentage (63.6%).
Cluff continues a streak of First Team All-Summit League honorees for the Jackrabbit men's basketball program. SDSU has had a player named to the First Team for 15 consecutive seasons. He's SDSU's fourth player to earn the Newcomer of the Year award and first since Douglas Wilson in 2020.
SDSU has had an All-Defensive Team selection in every season the conference has recognized it which began in 2022. The Jacks have now had 11 All-Newcomer Team choices.
Jackrabbit sophomore
Kalen Garry was also tabbed by The Summit League as an honorable mention for its postseason awards.
Garry started in all 15 games he played in and played a team-high 31.7 minutes on the court. He averaged 13.2 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game along with shooting 45.9% from the field. Garry scored in double figures in 11 of those appearances and put together five contests with multiple steals.
Among conference individuals, Garry ranked 16th in scoring, 11th in assists, 13th in steals and ninth in minutes played.
South Dakota State makes its debut at the 2025 Summit League Basketball Championships on Friday at approximately 8:15 p.m. when the third-seeded Jackrabbits take on sixth-seeded North Dakota. The winner of their game will face the winner of No. 2 St. Thomas versus No. 7 Denver on Saturday.
