FIVE JACKS MAKE THE PODIUM FOR DAY ONE OF CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS

VERMILLION, S.D. — Five student-athletes make the podium for South Dakota State during day one of the Summit League Outdoor Championships on Thursday night.
Hunter Wallster took home a gold medal in the hammer throw with a mark of 200-08 (61.17m). This will be the fourth time in Wallster's collegiate career that he wins the hammer throw, and sixth time making the podium at either the Indoor or Outdoor Summit League Championships.
Carson Noecker and Cashton Johnson found themselves on the podium after an impressive battle in the 10,000-meter race. Noecker fought with Abraham Chelangam of Oral Roberts for a majority of the race, eventually finishing at 30:13.38 for second. Johnson crossed the line not long after in third with a time of 30:37.15.
On the women's side, Courtney Stadter led the Jackrabbits with a second-place finish at 35:50.90. Ashlyn Hillyard cruised in behind her to take third with a time of 36:17.01 and Jessica Lutmer finished fourth with a time of 36:26.35.
In the javelin, Ryann Moline, Nora Peterson, and Sloan Young managed to score some points for the Jackrabbits. Moline finished in the top-five with a mark of 141-02 (43.03m) to become the sixth-best performer in program history. Peterson threw 136-02 (41.50m) to finish sixth and Young posted a mark of 127-00 (38.73m) to take eighth.
Katelyn Darnell and Ryan Benson kicked off day one of the Summit League Outdoor Championships in the heptathlon and decathlon, respectively. Darnell finished runner-up in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.33, before winning the 200-meter dash at 24.62. The senior is currently third in the heptathlon with 3069 points. Benson had a solid showing in high jump as he won the event with a leap of 6-03.50 (1.92m) before capping the day with a third-place finish in shot put with a mark of 40-06.75 (12.36m). Benson is currently fifth in the decathlon with 3435 points heading into the final events slated to start tomorrow afternoon.
Gunnar Gunderson finished runner-up in the 400-hurdle qualifying round. Gunderson finished with a time of 53.36 to win his heat. Jackson Roberts posted a qualifying time as well, finishing at 55.01 to place sixth across the field. Gunderson and Roberts will participate in the finals slated to start on Saturday at 2:45 p.m.
