BROOKINGS, S.D. – The South Dakota State University men's basketball team has added four student-athletes to its 2025-26 roster as the program received signed financial aid agreements from multiple newcomers this spring. Expected to join the squad when summer workouts begin are Trey Buchanan, Caleb Delzell, Luke Haertle and Jaden Rogers.Â

Trey Buchanan | Guard | 6-0 | 185 | R-Fr. | Westfield, Ind. | Iowa
Buchanan joins the South Dakota State program after spending the past season as a redshirt at Iowa.Â

Prior to his first year in college in Iowa City, Buchanan was a two-time Indiana all-state selection at Westfield High School in Indiana. He also was a two-time all-conference and all-county honoree. His senior campaign during the 2023-24 calendar year saw Buchanan average 14 points, three rebounds and three assists, while shooting 46% from the field and over 40% beyond the 3-point line. As a junior, Buchanan averaged 14.5 points, four rebounds and just under three assists per game.Â

Buchanan made 160 3-point field goals during his final three prep seasons. He holds school records for most 3-pointers made in a half (seven) and in a game (10), along with most points scored in a quarter (24). Buchanan was named an Indiana All-Star as both a senior and junior along with a Supreme 15 team selection his senior year. He led his high school team to its best winning percentage ever as well as its most wins in a single season with 19.Â

Caleb Delzell | Forward | 6-9 | 225 | Gr. | Camanche, Iowa | Upper Iowa
Delzell brings a significant amount of collegiate experience to South Dakota State. The Camanche, Iowa, native played in over 90 games the last three seasons at Upper Iowa.Â

The graduate student started in every game for the Peacocks over the last two seasons. His 2023-24 campaign saw him average a career-high 9.3 points in 28.5 minutes per game. Delzell had career-best shooting marks of 43.8% from the floor including a 39.2% clip from deep that season. This past year, Delzell grabbed a career-best 5.1 rebounds while blocking 54 shots across 30 games. Delzell recorded a career-high 23 points previously while he registered double-digit rebound performances for Upper Iowa on four occasions. His time with Upper Iowa saw the program claim the first share of a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference division title for the first time along with advancing to the 2024 NCAA Division II Tournament.Â

Delzell spent two prior years at Kirkwood Community College. He played in over 50 games for the Eagles where he earned NJCAA All-Region accolades. Delzell was also an all-conference and all-state performer during his prep career at Camanche High School.Â

Luke Haertle | Guard | 6-3 | Jr. | Hartland, Wis. | Winona State
Haertle moves west to Brookings following a stellar sophomore season at Winona State.Â

His lone year with the Warriors saw Haertle earn the NSIC Newcomer of the Year award along with being tabbed to the league's all-conference first team. Haertle played in 33 games for Winona State, and started 32, for a program that qualified for the NCAA Division II Tournament. Haertle led Winona State in points, assists, steals, blocks and minutes played on the year. He averaged 17.2 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game, while he recorded 56 steals and 14 blocks. Haertel finished fourth in the NSIC in points per game, ninth in rebounds and assists, as well as sixth in steals. He had a career-high 35 points in a game against Northern State in January.Â

Haertle spent his first two seasons at the college level at Wisconsin. Following a redshirt season, Haertle appeared in 11 games for the Badgers during the 2023-24 slate. The Hartland, Wis., native amassed 2,264 points and over 1,000 rebounds during his prep career. A three-time all-state basketball honoree, Haertle led Lake Country Lutheran to its first-ever WIAA state title when Lutheran won the 2022 WIAA Division 3 State Championship. Each season of his varsity prep career saw Haertle average at least 20 points, 10 rebounds and four assists per game.Â

Jaden Rogers | Guard | 6-6 | Fr. | Waukee, Iowa | Sunrise Christian Academy
Rogers enters his freshman season following a post-graduate year spent at Sunrise Christian Academy in Bel Aire, Kansas. Rogers had strong showings for Sunrise Christian in multiple tournament. He averaged 18.5 points per game at the 2024 National Prep Showcase while he also had a 22-point effort against IMG Academy in the Sunshine Prep Showcase this past December.Â

Rogers was an all-conference performer as a senior. The 2024 graduate of Waukee High School started in all 24 games for the Warriors. He averaged over eight points, 4.5 rebounds over two assists and a steal per game. A three-year varsity letterwinner, Rogers played in over 50 games combined across his sophomore and junior campaigns off the Waukee bench. Those seasons saw the Warriors finish as Iowa's Class 4A State Championship runner-up.Â

The four spring additions will join fall signing in Davis Kern (Marion, Iowa) as newcomers to the program for the 2025-26 season. South Dakota State has nine players returning from its 2024-25 squad that ended the season with a 20-12 overall record and a third-place finish in The Summit League standings.Â
