CHICAGO — South Dakota State defensive lineman Kobe Clayborne was one of 30 Football Championship Subdivision standouts named to the initial watch list for the 2025 Buck Buchanan Award, which is presented by Stats Perform. The award is presented annually to the top defensive player in the FCS.
A senior from Sioux City, Iowa, Clayborne played at both the defensive end and defensive tackles a season ago and shared the team lead with 4.5 sacks. He played in all 15 of the Jackrabbits' games in 2024 and started the final 13, recording totals of 34 tackles and 5.5 tackles for loss for an SDSU defense that led the FCS in scoring defense (13.9 points per game) and ranked firth in total defense (283.7 yards per game). Clayborne was an honorable mention all-Missouri Valley Football Conference selection and also earned a spot on the league's All-Newcomer Team.
The Buck Buchanan Award watch list will be updated periodically throughout the the 2025 season, with the award presented at the Stats Perform National Awards Banquet on Jan. 3, 2026, in Nashville, Tennessee.
