ST. PAUL, Minn. - The South Dakota State women's basketball team led wire-to-wire in an 84-51 victory over St. Thomas Wednesday night at the Tommies' Lee & Penny Anderson Arena.
Madison Mathiowetz, a Sleepy Eye, Minn. native, showed out in her home state. The senior put up a game-high 21 points to go with three rebounds and an assist. With two 3-pointers on the night, Mathiowetz moved into a tie for 10th place all-time for career triples at SDSU (167).
Brooklyn Meyer added 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the floor and a 5-of-6 effort at the free throw line. She just missed a double-double, notching nine boards, and also tallied four assists and two steals. Meyer surpassed 500 points for the season and becomes just the second Jackrabbit in history to score at least 500 points in three separate seasons.
South Dakota State led 15-9 after the opening quarter, then Meyer and Mathiowetz put together a 9-2 run over the first four minutes of the second quarter to lead 24-11. The Jacks scored 10 of the last 12 points of the half to lead 38-23 at halftime and continued to pull away after the break.
Emilee Fox knocked down three 3-point attempts and finished with 11 points, plus matched her career highs with six assists and five rebounds.
Mahli Abdouch went 3-for-4 from deep for nine points and gave out three assists, while
Brooklynn Felchle added eight points and five rebounds. Freshman
Hadley Thul made the first start of her career and contributed five points, three rebounds, two assists and the Jackrabbits' only block of the contest.
The Jackrabbits shot 52% for the game, the ninth time this year SDSU has registered a shooting percentage above .500. The Jacks dominated the boards with a 38-19 rebounding advantage and used a 13-1 edge in offensive boards to post a 14-0 mark in second chance points.
St. Thomas was led by Alyssa Sand, who scored 12 points and tallied four steals.
SDSU improves to 18-6 overall and 8-2 in the Summit League. St. Thomas is now 10-13 on the year and 3-6 in conference games.

- Madison Mathiowetz is tied with Megan Waytashek for 10th place on SDSU's career 3-pointers list. Assistant coach Macy Stanage (Macy Miller) is ninth on that list with 168 career triples.
- Brooklyn Meyer is the second player in program history to score at least 500 points in three separate seasons. Assistant coach Macy Stanage (Macy Miller) also scored 500 points in three seasons during her career as a Jackrabbit.
