BEFORE SDSU: Racked up the wins and strikeouts during a standout prep career at Sergeant Bluff-Luton High School ... earned all-state honors as a senior after compiling 8-2 record with 109 strikeouts in 74 1/3 innings in helping lead his team to the state tournament ... posted a 2.30 earned run average and held opposing batters to a .193 average ... two-time all-conference and all-district honoree who turned in a 5-4 record and struck out 95 batters in 63 2/3 innings during the 2013 campaign ... recorded 20 strikeouts in one seven-inning game during his junior season ... also earned a varsity letter in football and was an all-district and all-conference and all-district honoree in basketball
