DENVER, Colo. ? South Dakota State started a five game road trip in Denver on Sunday by earning its second win of the season, 67-56 over the Denver Pioneers.
Denver jumped out to a 17-11 lead mid-way through the first half, but the Jackrabbits used an 18-2 run to take a 29-19 lead with 3:44 remaining in the half, and never trailed again. The Pioneers cut that lead in half before the break, but the Jacks still led 32-27 at the half.
SDSU boosted its lead to as many as 18 points in the second half, and held off a late Pioneer charge at the end of the game to win by the final total of 11 points.
Cadwell led the Jacks in scoring for the fifth straight game with 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting (61.5 percent), going 1-for-3 on three pointers and 1-for-3 from the free throw line. He also added 11 rebounds for his first career double double.
Kai Williams went 4-for-5 from the floor, (80 percent) made both of his three point attempts and his only free throw to finish the game with 11 points. Williams came up one rebound shy of his second double double of the season.
Michael Loney rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Jacks with 10 points. Like Williams, Loney shot 4-for-5 from the floor and went 2-for-3 from the free throw line.
Garrett Callahan made six of his eight free throw attempts and added a three pointer to finish the game with nine points. Callahan and
Andy Kleinjan both led the Jacks with three assists.
Antonio Porch led the Pioneers with 13 points, while Tyler Bullock added 11.
The Jacks out rebounded Denver 44-31 but turned the ball over 19 times compared to the Pioneers 14.
SDSU improves to 2-7 with the win while Denver falls to 1-8.
The Jacks continue their road trip on Thursday at Minnesota. Tip off at Williams Arena in Minneapolis is scheduled for 7 p.m.
