INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. ? South Dakota State out rebounded IUPUI 37-32 on Saturday night in Indianapolis, Ind., but the Jaguars won on the scoreboard, and sent the Jackrabbits to their second straight loss with a 72-44 win in front of 974 fans in The Jungle on the campus of IUPUI.
The Summit League leading Jaguars improve to 13-3 overall and 5-0 in league play, while the Jacks fall to 6-11 overall, 1-5 in Summit League play.
IUPUI jumped out to an early 7-2 lead, only to see the Jacks fight back to take a short-lived 8-7 lead with 12:37 to play in the opening half. The Jags retook the lead 24 seconds later on a bucket by the league's preseason player-of-the-year George Hill, and never trailed again.
The Jacks, who trailed 34-15 at the half, held the Jags to 39 percent from the floor in the first half on 11-of-28 shooting, but struggled to shoot 19 percent in the first half on 5-of-26 shooting.
The Jaguars continued to build their lead in the second half, and used a 12-0 run to increase their lead from 17 to 29 points, and never let the Jacks get closer than 22 the rest of the game.
The Jackrabbits shooting improved to 50 percent (12-of-24) in the second half, but no SDSU player managed to reach double digit points, as redshirt freshman Anthony Cordova led the Jacks with nine points.
Sophomore Kai Williams led all players with a game-high 11 rebounds.
Billy Pettiford led four Jags in double-figures with 17 points, Gary Patterson and Jon Avery added 14 each, while Hill finished with 11.
The Jackrabbits return to action on Thursday, when they host UMKC in Summit League action at Frost Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
