Jackrabbit equestrian team downs Fresno State

South Dakota State posted 4-1 wins in both equitation over fences and horsemanship en route to a 13-7 victory over Fresno State (Calif.) in the Jackrabbits' first Varsity Equestrian head-to-head competition of the season, Saturday at the Swiftel Center.

Three Jackrabbit riders earned most valuable rider honors in their respective classes. Marian Michalson earned the honor in equitation on the flat with a score of 85, while Kaylee Mundwiler and Lydia Placzek swept the Western events. Mundwiler, a junior from Milbank, recorded a score of 80.5 in horsemanship, while Placzek turned in the high score in reining with a mark of 78.

Jordanne Blair added a pair of victories in the Western events, winning her head-to-head matchup in horsemanship with a runner-up score of 79.5, as well as posting a score of 76 in reining.

SDSU closes out its weekend homestand Sunday with another head-to-head matchup against Minnesota-Crookston. Competition begins at 10 a.m. at the Swiftel Center.
