Isabelle Malick was a two-time winner in the jumping seat events and South Dakota State scored four points in horsemanship to lift the Jackrabbits to a home-opening 11-9 victory over Minnesota Crookston in head-to-head equestrian competition Saturday at the DeHaan Equestrian Center.
A junior from Colorado Springs, Colorado, Malick earned Most Outstanding Performer honors in fences after defeating Maggie Lawler of UMC, 82-69, in their head-to-head matchup. Malick came back later in the day to record a 77-67 victory over Lawler in flat.
Heidi White added to her sophomore season with a score of 66 in fences to win her matchup with Belle Syrett by 11 points. In flat, White posted a 78, but fell to UMC's Julianne Lurie.
Avery Bergan led the Jackrabbit advantage in horsemanship by earning MOP honors after winning her matchup against Addison Pike, 76-73.5. Hailey Hanson and Anna Minnich each tallied victories with respective scores of 76.5 and 75.5, while Hannah Dutton posted a head-to-head win with a score of 73.
SDSU claimed two of the five points in reining and was led by Hanson with a score of 70.5 points in a winning effort against Crookston's Micah Fohrman. Emma Riggs also turned in a winning ride with the score of 68.
