The South Dakota State men's basketball team picked up its first win of the season on Sunday at Frost Arena with a 92-61 defeat of Mayville State.
Clint Sargent led all players with 18 points, but he got plenty of help. Dale Moss chipped in with a career-high 14 points and Kai Williams added 12. Garrett Callahan and Josh Cassaday each scored nine points in the win, which gives the Jacks an even 1-1 record. Mayville State falls to 0-5 with the loss.
Along with his career-high nine points, Cassaday recorded career-best marks with six rebounds and 21 minutes. Payton Tivis set career marks with 22 minutes, five points, seven rebounds and two assists. Mark Engen tied a career-high with seven points.
Bo Harrison led Mayville State with 13 points, Micah Berge added ten points in the loss.
The Comets took the opening tip and went right down the floor to score the first two points of the game, but the Jacks bounced right back with an 11-0 run and never looked back.
Mayville would score the next basketball to get within seven points at 11-4, but the Jacks steadily pulled away, leading by as many as 27 points in the first half.
SDSU would stretch that lead to as many as 39 points in the second half before the final 31-point margin at the end of the game.
The Jackrabbits hit the road for the first time this week with games at Virginia Commonwealth on Wednesday and at Drake on Sunday.
The Jacks and Rams tip-off at 7:30 ET, while the Jacks and Bulldogs start at 2:05 p.m.
SDSU Returns home on Tuesday, Nov. 25, to host the Upper Iowa Peacocks.
Notes: Sunday's game marks the first 90-plus point output from the Jacks since a 99-80 win over Northern State on March 13, 2004, at the North Central Regional Tournament ... The 31-point margin of victory is the largest for the Jacks since an 87-51 win over Mayville State on Nov. 24, 2005.
