BROOKINGS, S.D. — The South Dakota State women's soccer team opens up conference play this weekend as they head to Centenary and Oral Roberts for their Summit League opener.
The Jackrabbits are also looking to pick up their first road win of the season with 0-3-1 on the road thus far. The Jacks also struggled out of the gate with a 0-3-1 record but have since rattled off a 3-1-1 record over their last five games.The Jackrabbits now stand at 3-4-2 overall.
Scouting Report: Centenary
After a dismal 3-14-1 record in 2008, the Ladies have bounced back to a league-best 8-1 record in 2009, including a perfect 6-0 record at home. Centenary, winners of three straight, are led by Katie Valdez with five goals and seven assists on an amazing 50 shots. The Ladies offense has scored 26 goals this season and are firing shots at a clip of over 21 per game.
Defensively, Centenary is led by Deb Hill in goal. Hill has allowed 10 goals this season, but gave up seven in one game at Louisiana Tech in a 7-1 loss. She has collected 40 saves and has a save percentage of .800 with three shutouts.
Last season the Jacks dominated the Ladies at Fishback Soccer Park 5-0 in 2008. They have also never lost, going 1-0-1 all-time against Centenary.
Oral Roberts
The Golden Eagles are sitting at 3-5 this season, but have dropped their last three by a margin of 11-3. Two of those loses have been at the hands of Missouri State and Kansas, two teams the Jacks have also faced this season. The Jacks held Missouri State in check to a 0-0 tie while ORU fell 5-0, despite firing more shots. Both teams feel to Kansas. The Jacks lost 4-0 while ORU put up a fight, falling 5-3.
Natalya Manyan, a two-time Summit League First-Team selection leads the Golden Eagles. She has played about every position on the team during her career and is a gifted athlete. This season she leads the team in scoring with three goals on 14 shots.
ORU's defense is surrendering over two goals per game and a .185 shot percentage. Goalkeeper Amanda Wheeler has allowed 16 goals with a 2.29 goal-against average while making 29 saves for a .644 save percentage with two shutouts.
The Jacks lead the all-time series with a 2-0 record, including a 2-0 win at Fishback last season.

Feed the Fans: The Jackrabbit Athletic Department will hold their annual “Feed the Fans” game on Oct. 9 when the Jacks host Oakland at Fishback Soccer Park. All SDSU fans will be treated to a burger, drink and the Summit League home opener.
Justice Cracks top 10: Kaitlin Justice scored her ninth career goal against Mary on Sept. 23, propelling her into 10th place on the all-time goals-scored list at SDSU. She is the only current Jackrabbit on the list, and is tied in career scoring on the current roster at 19 points with fellow junior Danni Healy.
Last Week: Mary - The South Dakota State women's soccer team put an exclamation point on the non-conference season finale, as they defeated the Mary Marauders 4-0 on a beautiful night at Fishback Soccer Park in front of 347 fans.
Kaitlin Justice set the pace for the Jacks scoring in the 48th second. Kayla Braffet found the back of the net early in the second half to boost the lead to 2-0. Christa Nyblom and Kelsey Ferguson would also add goals in the rout.
Brie Rogers went the distance for the Jacks in net, making three saves notching her second-career shutout.
The Roster: The 2009 SDSU soccer roster features 26 players from 10 different states and one from Canada. Of the 26 players, four are South Dakota natives and five are from Minnesota. Nebraska, Kansas and Wisconsin have three players represented while Colorado and Iowa have two apiece. Illinois, Texas and Wyoming have one player from each state. Internationally, the Jacks have one athlete from Canada.
By class, two are seniors, six are juniors, nine are sophomores and nine are freshmen.
