INDIANAPOLIS - Looking for a signature win to hang their hat on all season, junior Kaitlin Justice scored a goal in the 90th minute of the contest to escape Kuntz Stadium with a 1-0 win over league-leading IUPUI, Sunday, despite playing short one player.
The SDSU women's soccer team moves to 7-6-2 overall and 4-2 in The Summit League, with all their conference wins coming on the road. IUPUI entered the game riding a 12-match winning-streak, second only to Stanford on the national scale, and is their first defeat since a 1-0 loss to Valparaiso on Aug. 30. They fall to 12-3 overall and 4-1 in The Summit League.
SDSU goalkeeper Brie Rogers started the game and received a red card at the 65:09 mark for a foul outside the box, leaving the Jacks to play the final 25 minutes of the game down a player. Rogers recorded four saves before the card. Dani Pappas came on in relief and earned the win, making one save.
The wins moves the Jacks into a three-way tie atop the Summit League point standings with IUPUI and North Dakota State. The point standings decide who makes the conference tournament and their seeding.
Justice's goal with only 50 seconds remaining in the game from 12 yards out was her fourth of the season and her team-leading third game-winner. Courtney Higgins assisted on the play. Justice also led the Jacks with three shots, all on goal.
IUPUI outshot SDSU 13-10 in the game and held an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The Jacks will wrap-up conference play with their final three games at home. This week the Jacks will host UMKC Friday at 1 p.m. and Southern Utah at 6 p.m. on Sunday.
