Jackrabbits go 1-2 at Best in the West Invitational

FRESNO, Calif. ? The South Dakota State University equestrian team returned to Varsity Equestrian competition, winning one of three head-to-head matchups at Fresno State's Best in the West Invitational over the weekend.

The Jackrabbits split a pair of competitions on Saturday, falling 7-5 to Tennessee-Martin before claiming a 6-5 victory over Texas Christian University. SDSU won four of the six matchups in Western competition to claim the victory over TCU, which is the defending Varsity Equestrian national champion in the Western discipline.

SDSU wrapped up competition Sunday with a 9-2 loss to tournament champion and host Fresno State. Ashlie Centa in Western horsemanship and Abby Knobbe in reining were victorious for the Jackrabbits. Knobbe and Centa went 3-0 for the weekend in the reining competition, while Lydia Placzek won twice.

Lindsay Harr picked up a victory and a tie to lead the English squad.

The Jackrabbits will travel to Tennessee-Martin for a head-to-head rematch on Sunday. The rest of the English team will be in action Saturday and Sunday at a multi-team Intercollegiate Horse Show Association meet in Madison, Wis.
