South Dakota State returns to the road for the final time in the 2009-10 season this week with games at league-leader Oakland on Thursday and at IPFW on Saturday. The Jackrabbits and Golden Grizzlies tip-off on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET, while the Jacks and Mastodons get things going early on Saturday with a 2 p.m. ET start.
Bad luck and buzzer-beaters busted the Jacks in their only game last week, as North Dakota State's Nate Zastrow hit a game tying three-pointer as time expired in regulation. NDSU's Josh Vaughan hit one as time expired in the first overtime, but strangest play of the Bison's 90-85 double-overtime win over South Dakota State came with 23 seconds left in regulation.
The Jackrabbits, led 64-60 with 23 seconds on the clock when Zastrow went to the free throw line for two shots. He made the first shot for a 64-61 SDSU lead, but his second shot bounced out and got stuck between the rim and the backboard forcing a jump ball. The possession arrow pointed to the Bison, setting the stage for the first buzzer-beater of the night.
NDSU scored first in the second OT and never trailed again, sending 3,575 shocked Jackrabbit fans back into snow outside of Frost Arena.
Clint Sargent enters the week leading the Jackrabbit offense with 12.8 points per game, and leading the team with a 46.5 percent three-point field goal percentage and an 85.4 free throw percentage. Sargent also needs just 27 points over the weekend to become the 42nd Jackrabbit to reach the 1,000 point milestone, and the third along with Kai Williams and Garrett Callahan to score all of them at the Division I level.
Callahan comes into the week averaging an even 12 points per game, Kai Williams adds 10.3 points and a team-high 6.1 rebounds per game, while Nate Wolters enters the week with a 9.8 points per game average to go along with his team-high 28 steals.
NAGY RAISING MONEY FOR HATIAN RELIEF EFFORTS - SDSU head coach Scott Nagy teamed-up with Samaritan's Feet, the South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association and high school coaches throughout the state, to raise money and shoes for children all over the world. All of the coaches from the SDBCA agreed to coach a game barefoot between Jan. 14-23, culminating with coach Nagy coaching barefoot at Frost Arena on Jan. 23, against Oakland.

More than just a scorer, Callahan entered the top-10 in assists on Feb. 6, against UMKC and enters the week tied for 10th all-time at SDSU with 241 assists.
WILLIAMS MAKES HIS MARK - Kai Williams completed an old fashioned three-point play in overtime against Oakland on Jan. 31, 2009, to become the 39th member of the SDSU 1,000-Point Club and the first to score all of his points at the Division I level. Now a senior, Williams enters the week ranked 12th all-time with 1,349 points.
In addition to his climb up the SDSU scoring charts, Williams also rebounded his way into the top-five in career-rebounds. He led the Jacks in rebounding in each of his first three years on the team and enters the week ranked fourth on the all-time list with 805.
SARGENT CLOSES IN ON 1,000 POINTS - Junior Clint Sargent continues to close in on the 1,000-point milestone. His team-high 321 points so far this season gives him 973 career-points, 27 points shy of joining the club.
WOLTERS TIES FREE THROW RECORD - Freshman Nate Wolters tied the SDSU single game free-throw percentage record when he went 12-for-12 from the free throw line in the Jacks win over UMKC last week. Wolters tied the record first set by Jim Sutton in a win over St. Thomas (Minn.) on Dec. 17, 1956 and equaled by Garrett Callahan in a win over Southern Utah on Feb. 12, 2009.
