South Dakota State hits the road for two consecutive games as the Jackrabbits continue Summit League play. The Jacks are slated to take on Denver inside Hamilton Gymnasium at 8 p.m. CT on Thursday, followed by a trip to Tulsa, Okla., to face Oral Roberts in the Mabee Center at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
The Jackrabbits play the Pioneers and Golden Eagles each for the second time. SDSU won both of the previous matchups in Brookings. SDSU defeated Denver 87-79 on Jan. 8, while the Jackrabbits beat ORU by a 95-72 score on Jan. 31.
SDSU led for a majority of the first half in its contest against Denver, but trailed by seven midway through the second half. The Jackrabbits worked into the deficit and eventually tied the score with 7:38 remaining. A
Matthew Mors 3-pointer at the 4:41 mark put SDSU in front by more than a possession for good.
Damon Wilkinson led The Jacks in that game with 19 points and nine rebounds. He was followed in scoring by
Joe Sayler (18) and
Jaden Jackson (17).
South Dakota State is 25-8 all-time versus Denver and has won 19 of the last 22 meetings. Two of the losses in that span have come in Denver. The Jacks have lost their last two visits to Hamilton Gym, falling 99-80 in 2024 and 78-62 to the Pioneers on March 1 of last season.Â
Denver is 12-14 overall and 5-6 in Summit League Play. The Pioneers traveled to North Dakota last week and beat both NDSU (78-71) and North Dakota (98-79). Denver's Carson Johnson was named the Kwik Star Peak Performer of the Week by The Summit League as he turned in a pair of 20-point performances in the 701 State.Â
SDSU cruised to a 95-72 victory over Oral Roberts in their first meeting in Brookings this season. The Jackrabbit scored a season-high 58 points in a half to get the game started and finished the contest by outshooting ORU 57-33%. Sayler and Jackson had 24 points apiece in the win. ORU will take on Kansas City on Thursday. The Golden Eagles are currently 5-20 overall (0-10).Â
