South Dakota State erupted for six runs in the first inning, including a towering two run homerun by starting pitcher Kori Seidlitz, and even though Centenary chased Seidlitz with a six-run second, the Jackrabbits held on for a 10-4 win on Saturday to secure the series sweep.
The Jackrabbits improve to 18-29 with the wind-swept win, 10-8 in The Summit League, while the Ladies fall to 9-32 overall, 3-17 in league play.
After a quick top of the first inning, Centenary starter Lauren Highsmith walked the first two SDSU batters and then hit the third to end her day before she recorded an out, but after she loaded the bases full of Jackrabbits.
Morgan McCabe welcomed new pitcher Regina Salvatore to the game with the first of her two doubles in the game, the first hit through the left side and scored Devon Reick and Ashley Durazo to put the Jacks up 2-0.
Kelsey Lunn cleared the bases with a double to the gap in right center to plate Dani Broshar and McCabe for a 4-0 SDSU lead. That brought up Seidlitz, who came through with her second homer of the season, a high and deep shot over the fence in left center field to put the Jacks up 6-0.
The Ladies quickly brought the Jackrabbit freshman back to earth by touching her up for six runs on four hits in the top of the second before Pam Nicholson came on in relief.
SDSU got the lead back in the bottom of the second on Lunn's second double of the game that scored Reick from second.
The Jacks added another single run in the fourth on a Krista Honken RBI single and then two more in the fifth on a Reick groundout and an error to go up 10-6.
Kelsey Regan hit a two-out homer in the sixth to make it interesting, but Nicholson shut the Ladies down in the seventh to secure SDSU sweep, its first-ever three-game Summit League home sweep.
Nicholson pitched five and two-thirds innings in relief to pick-up the win, which improves her record to 5-13. She gave up just one run on six hits with a pair of strikeouts and no walks.
Lunn and McCabe led the Jackrabbit offense on the day, both with two doubles and a single. Lunn finished with three RBI and McCabe added two.
The Jackrabbits return to action on Friday, when they host the defending Summit League Champions North Dakota State in a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
