FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State scored 10 unanswered runs en route to five-inning, run-rule 13-4 victory over South Dakota State on Friday at Tharaldson Park.Â

The Bison tallied three runs in the opening inning before the Jackrabbits responded in the top of the second. Singles by
Bria Riebel and
Alli Boyle got the frame started, while a walk drawn by
Delaney Madson loaded the bases with no outs. An RBI single produced by
Emma Vike and a sacrifice fly via
Abby Gentry drew SDSU within a run at 3-2. Following another walk drawn,
Amanda Vacanti hit a two-run single to give the Jackrabbits a 4-3 advantage.Â

NDSU shut the door quickly on a competitive ball game. The Bison scored six runs in the bottom of the second and another four in the bottom of the third to put the game out of reach.Â

South Dakota State recorded just one more hit across the next three innings as the Bison closed out the run-rule win.Â

NDSU's Madison Wihlm earned a victory in the circle. She pitched five innings and allowed four runs on six hits to improve to 9-6 this season. The Bison lineup combined for 12 hits and seven walks.Â

Vike had a team-high two hits for SDSU. Four different Jackrabbits scored runs. Five pitchers made appearances for South Dakota State with
Amanda Vacanti being credited with the defeat.Â

South Dakota State fell to 23-31 (5-11 Summit League) on the season. North Dakota State improved to 26-22 (10-7).Â

Despite the loss, SDSU has qualified for the upcoming Summit League Softball Championship held in the Twin Cities next week. The Jackrabbits can qualify as either the No. 5 or No. 6 seed depending on their regular season finale result.Â
