LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Gina Jespersen scored the Jackrabbits only point on Saturday, as the South Dakota State equestrian team kicked off the spring portion of its schedule with a 6-1 loss in a Western only show at No. 9 New Mexico State.
"It was a disappointing loss today," head coach Megan Rossiter said. "It shows we have a lot of work to do to succeed for the remainder of the season.
The Jackrabbits fall to 2-4-1 with the loss, while the Aggies improve to an even 6-6 with the win, snapping a three-show losing streak in the process.
In addition Jespersen, who picked up her first win of the season in horsemanship with a score of 63, Maggie Holzworth rode to a tie in horsemanship with a 72 and in reining with a score of 60.5 to end the day with a 4-1-1 record in both events.
The Jackrabbits return to action on Feb. 19, when they travel to Fairfield, Conn., to take on Sacred Heart.
