WACO, Texas - The South Dakota State equestrian season came to a close on Thursday, as the Jackrabbit western team fell to Kansas State 6-2 at NCEA Nationals in Waco, Texas.
Maggie Holzworth scored the lone Jackrabbit point in horsemanship, carding a score of 144.5, but all four Wildcat riders scored at least 141 points to secure the final three points.
Laura Dunlavy and all-American honorable mention Helen Lauth both posted a score of 136 in reining, good enough for Dunlavy to score a point for the Jacks, but Lauth fell by one point to K-State's Jesse Johnson and her 137.
The loss ends the season for the Jackrabbits, who entered the event with the No. 11 seed, while the No. 6 seed Wildcats move on to face No. 3 seed Georgia in the national quarterfinals on Friday. Georgia earned a first round bye.
