The South Dakota State equestrian team closed the fall portion of its schedule on Saturday against the No. 2 South Carolina Gamecocks, who handed the Jackrabbits a 14-5 loss at the DeHaan Equestrian Center.
The loss drops the Jackrabbits to 0-8 on the season, while the second ranked Gamecocks improve to 6-2.
The Jackrabbits scored one point in each on the flat, over fences and in reining, with junior Mandy Gradert earning the lone MOP award with a season-high score of 79 on the flat, which gives her a 1-3 record this season.
Senior Santana Wright evened her record to 4-4 over fences with a score of 66, while freshman Danielle Dickerson scored her first win of the season and improved to 1-2 overall in horsemanship with a score of 73.5. Elizabeth Niewojna won the Jacks second point in horsemanship with a score of 69.5 to boost her record to 5-2 in her first season.
Senior All-American Laura Dunlavy scored a 69.5 in reining to win her second ride in a row, boosting her record to 2-4 through the fall season.
The Jackrabbits now take a break until Feb. 1, 2014, when they host Kansas State.
