STILLWATER, Okla. – A day after splitting a pair of meets in Manhattan, Kan., the South Dakota State equestrian team dropped a 16-4 meet at No. 2 Oklahoma State on Saturday in the Cowgirls' season-opener.
The loss drops the Jackrabbits to 1-2 on the season, while the Cowgirls improve to 1-0.
“OSU has a great team, and riding against them, especially early in the season, should only help us set the bar high,” head coach Megan Rossiter said. “ We had good rides today, but definitely have things we need to work on to get better. Although we didn't win many points, for the most part the spreads were not large. We are much stronger at this point in the season than we were last year.”
Marielle Golden picked up her second win of the season on the flat in as many rides with a score of 80, as the Jackrabbits scored two points in the event, with Jordan Goodall scoring the other point with an 83.
Sophomore Jessica Andronowitz completed a perfect 3-0 weekend by scoring SDSU's lone point over fences, carding an even 80 for the point.
The host's swept all five reining points, as sophomore Victoria Johnson scored the lone western point for the Jacks with a 73 in horsemanship.
The Jackrabbits get a few weeks off before opening their home schedule against Minnesota-Crookston on Oct. 18, at 10 a.m.
