DOVER, Del. – The South Dakota State equestrian team led going into the final event on Friday against No. 9 New Mexico State at Gambler's Choice Equestrian Center in Dover, Del., but came up short in the end, falling 9-7 to the Aggies.
SDSU falls to 1-5 on the season, while NMSU improves to 3-5.
"This was a very close meet and unfortunately wasn't in our favor today,” head coach Ellie Wilkins said. “Jacey Chorlton got her first MOP over fences and Marielle Golden earned an MOP in the flat, so we're very proud of both of them. We look forward to competing against DSU and are looking for a win."
Chorlton earned both of her points on the day, carding an 80 over fences to earn her first-career MOP, and then scored a 72 on the flat. She improves to 2-1 both on the flat and over fences.
Golden's first MOP of the season on the flat extends her SDSU career record to 15. She scored a 77 to improve to an even 3-3 on the season.
Taylor Duerr scored her point on the flat to improve to 2-3, while Alissa Greenwald scored the other SDSU point over fences with a score of 72, which moves her to 3-3.
The Jacks scored a pair of points in the western events, both in reining, where Makayla Reed scored a 66.5 and Miranda Sullivan a 68. Reed moves to 2-1-2 and Sullivan to 2-1 with the win.
SDSU looks to rebound on Saturday, when they take on host Delaware State at 10 a.m.
