The South Dakota State equestrian team started extended its winning streak to three in a row with an 11-7 win over TCU on Friday at the DeHaan Equestrian Center, capturing three of the four MOP awards in the process.
The Jackrabbits improve to 4-6 with the win, while the Horned Frogs fall to 4-7.
"We're very excited about this win against tough opponent, we really came together as a team today, and it made a big impact on the outcome of our meet,” head coach Ellie Wilkins said. “This is just the momentum we need to hit the road to compete at Fresno State in a few weeks."
The Jackrabbits fell into an early 3-1 hole after equitation over fences, but bounced back with four of the five points on the flat to take a 5-4 lead. Natalie Howard, Taylor Duerr, Marielle Golden and Jacey Chorlton all earned points on the flat, with Duerr earning her first-career MOP in the process. She also won the Jacks only point over fences to complete the sweep on for the day.
SDSU boosted its lead to 9-5 by taking four of the five horsemanship points, with Kelsey Swainston leading the way with a score of 74 to take home MOP honors for the first time in her career. The Jacks also got points from Angela Lopez, Lexus Hoffman and Nicole Siebold in horsemanship.
Miranda Sullivan earned her first MOP of the season, the third of her career, in reining with a score of 69.5, while Nicole Harvey won the only other reining point for SDSU, which earned a split in the event with a tie from Raivenne Scott.
The Jackrabbits get a couple of weeks off before returning to action on Friday, March 18 against Baylor in Fresno, Calif., and then closes the regular season against Fresno State the following day.
