Previewing the Game
South Dakota State hosts Oral Roberts Thursday in its Summit League home opener, taking on the Golden Eagles at 7 p.m. from Frost Arena.

The Jackrabbits (11-5, 2-0 Summit League) picked up a pair of road wins last week, taking down North Dakota State (87-80) and Omaha (101-88). SDSU has won five straight entering Thursday's contest.

ORU (7-11, 3-0) has won three straight and over the last two weeks has claimed league wins over Omaha, Fort Wayne and Western Illinois.

South Dakota State holds a narrow 10-9 lead in the all-time series, but has won seven of the last eight matchups after splitting home games in 2016-17.

About South Dakota State
Off to a perfect start in league play, the Jackrabbit sit second in The Summit League standings behind ORU, but are only a half-game behind. SDSU has not lost at home this season and has won 13 straight inside Frost Arena dating back to last season.

The Summit League Preseason Player of the Year Mike Daum is the nation's top returning scorer and has picked up where he left off in 2016-17, averaging a team-best 22.7 points and 8.6 rebounds per contest. He has eight double-doubles on the campaign and has reached double figures in 18 of 19 contests, including six 30-point performances.

Daum has been named the Summit League's Player of the Week four times, including three of the last four. He also has been named the Summit League's Athlete of the Month for November and December.

David Jenkins Jr. has made his presence known in his first season at the collegiate level, sitting second on the team with 14.7 points per game and 15 double figure scoring performances. He has led the team in scoring three times, and is shooting 42.6 percent from the field. Jenkins has reached the 20-point mark in five games, including a 31-point performance at Colorado where he drilled seven 3-pointers.

The Tacoma, Washington native leads the Jackrabbits with 48 total 3-pointers this season, firing at a clip of 41 percent. He is on pace to challenge Mike Daum's freshman scoring record of 518, set in 2015-16. Through 19 games that year, Daum had 243 points compared to Jenkins' 280 in that span.

Reed Tellinghuisen is third on the team in scoring and has provided big numbers of late, reaching double figures in 11 of the last 12 games. His season averages of 13.1 points and 4.5 rebounds per game both rank third on the team while the senior is shooting an impressive 52.1 percent from the field.

The Sac City, Iowa native is 40-for-90 (44.4 percent) from beyond the arc, and in both Summit League games provided the Jackrabbits with a surge late in the first half. Tellinghuisen scored 14 points in the final 4:35 of the first half at North Dakota State, and at Omaha buried a pair of 3-pointers on the final two possessions of the second half to send SDSU to the locker room with a 15-point lead.

Tevin King is putting up 9.4 points per game, just below double figures while grabbing 92 total rebounds, second-most on the squad. He has 52 assists and a team-best 33 steals and is shooting 53.2 percent from the field. From Chicago, King has scored 10 or more in 10 games this season, including a 15-point performance last Saturday at Omaha.

The Jackrabbits are 15th nationally in scoring offense, putting up 86.6 points per game with a plus-11.1 scoring margin. SDSU is shooting 42.4 percent from deep as a tea, good enough for sixth-best in the nation while the Jacks rank 38th in Division I with a 48.5 field goal percentage.

On the boards, State has a plus-4.6 rebound margin and is third nationally with 734 total rebounds.

About Oral Roberts
Oral Roberts comes to Frost Arena in first place of The Summit League, starting league play with three straight home wins.

The Golden Eagles are led by five double figure scorers, with Emmanuel Nzekwesi (13.3 points per game) pacing the team. Nzekwesi is a two-time Summit League Player of the Week this season and has started all 18 games for ORU, shooting 45.2 percent from the field with a 7.3 rebounding average (second on the team).

Albert Owens (12.5 ppg) has started 11 games but of late is coming off the bench and playing 25.8 minutes per game. He is shooting 45.6 percent from the field and has 4.6 rebounds per game.

Austin Ruder (11.5 ppg) has missed the last 10 games due to injury, but is expected to return to the lineup shortly. Prior to his absence, the senior guard had racked up 22 3-pointers and 18 assists over 33.4 minutes per game.

Javan White (10.9 ppg) and Sam Kearns (10.5 ppg) round out the top scorers for ORU, as White leads the team with 9.3 rebounds per game and Kearns is dishing out 4.4 assists per contest.

The Golden Eagles are averaging 71.4 points per game as a team and shooting 43.6 percent combined. In three conference games, ORU is up to 83.3 points per contest with a 46.8 field goal percentage while outrebounding its opponent by 12.7 each night.

Daum Named December Athlete of the Month
Mike Daum was named the Summit League's December Male Athlete of the Month, announced Jan. 9.

Daum, who was also the November honoree, averaged 23.4 points and 7.9 rebounds per game in that span, shooting 51.5 percent from the field. Beyond the arc, he hit 22-of-45 attempts and at the charity stripe buried 29 of his 37 free throws.

The junior was a two-time Player of the Week selection in the month and reached double figures in seven of eight starts. He had three double-doubles in the month and five games with 20 or more points, including a trio of 30-point efforts. The Kimball, Nebraska native shot over 50 percent in the final six games, including a 5-for-7 (71.4 percent) game at UMKC.

He is the first men's basketball player to receive the award in consecutive months since Wolters in 2013.

Daum Racks Up Weekly Honors
Mike Daum earned his fourth Summit League Player of the Week nod of the season Jan. 8. Daum is an eight-time Summit League Player of the Week for his career, the fourth-most all-time in league history.

Jan. 8 -- Averaged a double-double of 32 points and 13 rebounds over two wins last week, shooting 51.3 percent from the field while going 22-for-22 at the charity stripe. He started the week with a 37-point, 15-rebound performance at North Dakota State last Wednesday, hitting 10 field goals while going a perfect 16-for-16 on free throws. He followed with his 19th career double-double on Saturday, dropping 27 points with 11 rebounds at Omaha while pushing his consecutive free throw streak to 22.
Dec. 26 -- Averaged a double-double over two starts, putting up 23.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game alongside a 61.3 field goal percentage. Started the week with a 35-point, 14-rebound double-double against Drake on Dec. 19. He matched his career-high of 14 field goals and hit four 3-pointers in the game. Daum added 12 points and seven rebounds at UMKC (Dec. 22), going 5-for-7 from the field.
Dec. 18 -- Averaged a double-double over two starts, with 31 points and 11 rebounds per contests. Scored 37 points with 12 rebounds at Colorado (Dec. 15) and had 25 points with 10 boards against North Dakota (Dec. 12).
Nov. 20 -- Posted double-doubles in both games, averaging 25.5 points and 12.0 rebounds per contest. He shot 50 percent from the field (16 of 32) and hit eight 3-pointers while going 11-for-13 at the charity stripe. Notched his 13th career 30-point game against Alabama State (11/14) to go along with 13 rebounds while adding 21 points and 11 rebounds against Kansas (11/17).

Tough Tests
South Dakota State played five Power Five (ACC, SEC, Big 12, Big 10, Pac-12) opponents this season and has two wins those games.

The Jackrabbits knocked off Ole Miss (Nov. 28) in overtime after a win over Iowa (Nov. 21) at the Cayman Islands Classic.

SDSU also faced Kansas (Nov. 17) and Colorado (Dec. 15) in addition to a road matchup at then-No. 6 Wichita State (a member of the American Athletic Conference), with narrow losses against the Shockers and Buffaloes. At WSU, the Jacks led for over 28 minutes of game action, but a late charge helped the Shockers defend their home court. SDSU charged back from an early deficit in Colorado to force overtime, but could not pull off the comeback in a double overtime affair that saw SDSU play just eight Jackrabbits in 50 minutes of game action.

South Dakota State has seven wins over Power Five programs since joining The Summit League in 2007, picking up wins over Iowa State (2008), Iowa (2010 and 2017), Washington (2011), TCU (2015), Minnesota (2015) and Ole Miss (2017).

SDSU's wins over Iowa and Ole Miss this season came in the shortest time frame of any Summit League team since 1998 (seven days). The Jackrabbits are the fifth league team to post a win over separate Power Five conferences in the same regular season, and the first to do it since 2009.

Jenkins Jr. Named National Freshman of the Week
CBS Sports and the U.S. Basketball Writers Association have named South Dakota State's David Jenkins Jr. as the National Freshman of the Week, announced Dec. 19 on CBSSports.com.

Jenkins averaged 23 points, four 3-pointers, four rebounds and 1.5 steals per game last week, shooting 47.2 percent from the field with an 8-for-17 effort from long range.

He made the most of his first career start against North Dakota on Dec. 12, playing 29 minutes with 15 points and a career-high seven rebounds in a 99-63 Jackrabbit victory.

The 6-2 guard continued his hot play against Colorado last Friday, breaking the school's Division I freshman single-game scoring mark with 31 while burying seven 3-pointers, tied for fourth-most in a Division I game at SDSU. He teamed with Mike Daum to become the first duo in the school's Division I history to each have 30 or more points in the same game.

Daum Named November Athlete of the Month
South Dakota State's Mike Daum was selected as the Summit League's November Male Athlete of the Month, announced Dec. 7 by the conference office.

Daum helped the Jacks to a 7-2 record through the opening part of the season and averaged a near-double-double, posting 20.1 points and 8.2 rebounds per game while hitting 22 3-pointers. The Kimball, Nebraska native scored in double figures for all nine contests, including two 30-point performances and five games with 20 or more.

The forward had three consecutive double-doubles from Nov. 12-17, racking up 22 points and 13 rebounds against Mary and 30 points with 13 rebounds against Alabama State before closing the streak with a 21-point, 11-board performance at then-No. 3 Kansas.

Daum, Tellinghuisen Continue Rise on Scoring Chart
Mike Daum has risen to No. 3 on the Jackrabbit scoring chart in just 88 career games, passing Austin Hansen (1,815) and Lee Colburn (1,822) at Omaha Jan. 6. Daum now has 1,828 career points and is 103 shy of Mark Tetzlaff's 1,931 points for the second spot.

Reed Tellinghuisen joined the top 25 in all-time scoring Dec. 12, and is currently 21st with 1,266 career points. He is less than 200 points from the top 10 after joining the 1,000 points club in The Summit League Tournament last season.

Let It Rain
South Dakota State's 3-point offense ranks among the nation's best for the second-straight season, as the team leads the nation in 3-pointers made and is 11th in attempts for the Jan. 4 stats release. The Jacks are 13th nationally with 10.9 3-pointers per game and their 42.4 long range shooting percentage is sixth in Division I.

Last season, the Jacks had three players that hit 60 or more 3-pointers last season, including two returners in Mike Daum (79) and Reed Tellinghuisen (74). That duo ranked 13th nationally among active returning duos in combined 3-pointers from a year-ago. State has three already with 40 or more 3-pointers this year: David Jenkins Jr. (48), Mike Daum (46) and Reed Tellinghuisen (40). All three rank among the nation's best, with Jenkins sitting 38th and Daum 61st.
Through 19 games last season, SDSU was 174-for-482 beyond the arc. This year, the Jacks are 208-for-490 from long distance.
Nov. 28 saw the Jackrabbits reset the school's Division I record for 3-pointers made and attempted in a game for the third (makes) and fourth (attempts) time, going 18-for-41 beyond the arc.
Since the arrival of T.J. Otzelberger, the Jacks now hold all of the top five spots in the record book for 3-pointers made in a Division I game, and hold all but one of the spots in the top five of attempts.
The Otzelberger-led Jackrabbits have hit 14 or more 3-pointers in 10 games over the last two seasons, and prior to his arrival a State team had hit 14 or more 3-pointers in just six games.
Through the first 12 seasons of Division I basketball (starting in the first transition year of 2003-04), SDSU had 71 games of 10 or more 3-pointers, with a max of 13 in one season (2010-13). The Jackrabbits did it 13 times last year and this season has hit 10 or more 3-pointers in 11 games.
Under T.J., the Jackrabbits have attempted 30 or more 3-pointers in a game 11 times. The Pre-Otzelberger era Jackrabbit teams did it on 11 total occasions since the adoption of the 3-point line in 1986. It happened three times at the Division I level and eight times between 2003-04 and 2015-16, the last season Scott Nagy led the program.

Dynamic Duo
Teammates Mike Daum and Reed Tellinghuisen are back after leading the team in scoring a year ago, and rank among the nation's best as a scoring duo with over 3,000 points between them in their careers. The Jacks are third in total career points as a pair as of Jan. 9, 2018.

Tacoma Talent
Tacoma, Washington native David Jenkins Jr. has burst on the scene through his first month of collegiate basketball, racking up 280 points and 48 3-pointers through 19 games. He has hit at least two 3-pointers in 14 contests and on Dec. 15 at Colorado set the school's freshman single-game scoring record at the Division I level with 31.

The lone West coach native on the Jackrabbit roster has reached double figures in 15 of 19 games, becoming the first freshman to accomplish the feat at SDSU since Steve Holdren did it in 13 of his first 19 appearances in 2004-05.

Jenkins and Holdren are also the only two Jackrabbit freshmen to lead the team in scoring in their first collegiate game over the last 17 years (dating back to 2000-01 when game-by-game stats were readily available).

Jenkins is second on the team with 14.7 points per game in 2017-18 and has shot 42.6 percent from the field and 41 percent from long distance.

He was named the National Freshman of the Week by CBS Sports and the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Dec. 19 after averaging 23 points, four 3-pointers, four rebounds and 1.5 steals per game over two games that week.

He is on pace to challenge Mike Daum's freshman scoring record of 518 points, set in 2015-16. Jenkins has 280 points through 18 games, compared to Daum's 224 points in that span.

Fellow Tacoma native Isaiah Thomas, currently with the Cleveland Cavaliers, had 310 points and 17 double figure games through 19 games of his freshman year at Washington.
Jenkins scored over 2,000 points in his high school career before spending a year at Sunrise Christian Academy Prep School. He was named as a newcomer to watch in The Summit League by TheAthletic.com's John Rohde.

As of Tuesday, Jan. 9 Jenkins sits ninth among Division I freshmen this season in total points.

#FearFrost
The Jacks own an 82-5 record at Frost Arena over the last six seasons dating back to 2011-12, which includes perfect home records in four of the last five years entering the current season. That span includes two home winning streaks of 30 or more games.

South Dakota State won 34 consecutive games from Jan. 30, 2014 to Dec. 28, 2016. It ended as the nation's second longest active streak.
The Jackrabbits won 30 consecutive home games from Jan. 29, 2011 to Nov. 14, 2013.
SDSU put together undefeated seasons inside Frost Arena the following years: 1984-85 (18-0), 2002-03 (17-0), 2011-12 (14-0), 2012-13 (13-0), 2014-15 (13-0), and 2015-16 (12-0). SDSU is 7-0 at home this year.
Since 2011-12, South Dakota State has won 94.2 percent of its home games, a mark that ranks fourth among all Division I programs.
South Dakota State has won 28 consecutive home nonconference games inside Frost Arena. That mark ranks eighth nationally.

Team Quick Hits

Mike Daum and David Jenkins Jr. became the first Jackrabbit duo in Division I to score 30 or more points in the same game when the pair went for 37 and 31, respectively at Colorado Dec. 15.
South Dakota State has scored 100 or more four times this season. Prior to the Jackrabbits' 103-67 win over Concordia (Neb.), the previous 100-point game for SDSU was Feb. 28, 2013. The last time SDSU had two or more 100-point games in a season was 2011-12, when the Jackrabbits did it twice. The Division I program record for 100-point games in a season is five, set in 2004-05 and the overall program record is six, set in 1997-98, 1991-92 and 1968-69.
The Jackrabbits have passed the 90-point mark nine times this season and have scored 80 or more in 14 games.
The Jacks are 11-2 when winning the rebounding battle and 3-3 when being out-rebounded. Twice this year the Jacks have posted a plus-20 rebounding margin. SDSU was 16-1 when outrebounding its opponent last year and 2-16 in games with the same or fewer rebounds.
South Dakota State forced 11 steals against Concordia (Neb.) on Dec. 8, tallying 10-or-more steals in a game for the first time since Nov. 19, 2015 at Illinois State (11).
Six Jackrabbits reached double figures against Concordia (Neb.) on Dec. 8 for the first time in a game since Feb. 28, 2013 at Omaha, and did it again Dec. 22 at UMKC.
Five times this season the Jackrabbits have had two players score over 20 points in the same game. It last happened Jan. 6 at Omaha when Daum and Jenkins Jr. put up 27 and 22, respectively.
South Dakota State is now three wins away from the program's 1,500th victory. The Jacks won their 500th game in Frost Arena last season.
2017-18 marked the third time State started 3-0 at the Division I level (dating back to transition year of 2004-05). The Jacks also did it in 2010-11 and 2015-16, when the team started an Division I-best 6-0.
At least one Jackrabbit has scored in double figures over the last 328 games dating back to Jan. 12, 2008 at IUPUI when Anthony Cordova had nine points to lead the Jacks.
From Jan. 31, 2009 through the 2013-14 season, SDSU put together a streak of 179 games with at least one 1,000 point scorer on the floor. SDSU snapped a streak of 90 games without a 1,000 point scorer when Mike Daum joined the club on Jan. 21, 2017. SDSU has now restarted a streak of 32 games with at least one 1,000-point scorer on the court.
State has made at least one 3-pointer in 357 consecutive games. The last time the Jackrabbits did not make a 3-point field goal was Jan. 25, 2007 at Utah State when the team went 0-for-13.
SDSU is 92-18 all-time in home openers (where records available). Dating back to 2004-05, SDSU's first year of DI transition, SDSU is 12-2.

Daum Named to Award Watch Lists
Mike Daum has earned a spot on three national award watch lists for the 2017-18 season, being named a preseason favorite for the Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year, Oscar Robertson Player of the Year and Lute Olson Player of the Year awards.

The Karl Malone Award is presented by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Named after Hall of Famer and two-time NBA Most Valuable Player Karl Malone, the annual honor in its fourth year recognizes the top power forwards in Division I men's college basketball. By mid-February, the watch list of 20 players for the 2018 Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Award will be narrowed to just 10. In March, five finalists will be presented to Mr. Malone and the Hall of Fame's selection committee. The winner of the 2018 Karl Malone Award will be presented at the ESPN College Basketball Awards Show presented by Wendy's in Los Angeles, CA on Friday, April 6, 2018.
Daum was selected as one of 32 players on the 2017-18 Oscar Robertson Trophy Preseason Watch List, announced Nov. 6 by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association. The award is presented to the national player of the year by its namesake at the NCAA Final Four in San Antonio. In mid-March, the USBWA will announce its 2017-18 All-America Team and, at that time, finalists will also be chosen for the player of the year. Once finalists are announced, the entire USBWA membership will vote for the winner of the Oscar Robertson Trophy.
He was announced as one of 40 selections on the CollegeInsider.com Lute Olson Award Watch List Nov. 6 as well. The Lute Olson Award is presented annually to the nation's top Division I player who has played at least two seasons. The 2017-18 Lute Olson National Player of the Year Award will be announced on March 31, 2018 at the CollegeInsider.com Awards Event in San Antonio, site of the men's NCAA Basketball Championship.

Jacks Rise to No. 7 in Mid-Major Top 25
The Jackrabbits jumped eight spots to No. 7 in the latest College Sports Madness Mid-Major poll, release Jan. 8 by the organization.

The Jackrabbits were 15th a week ago, and have been in the top 25 for nine of 10 polls released this season. The previous best in the rankings this year for SDSU was 13th, achieved in the second edition.

The latest edition of the poll features 2017-18 opponents Missouri State (No. 9), South Dakota (No. 14), Buffalo (No. 25) and Drake (RV-11).

SDSU Signs Three
Owen King, Aaron Fiegen and Matthew Mimms signed their National Letters of Intent to join South Dakota State, announced Nov. 11 on National Signing Day.

King (Caledonia, Minnesota) averaged 19 points, five rebounds and six assists per game as a junior for Caledonia High School. He enters his senior season as the school's all-time leading scorer (1,925 points) and in December was named Minnesota's Associated Press High School Football Player of the Year.
Fiegen (Madison, South Dakota) was a First Team All-State pick last year, averaging 15.5 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game in 2016-17.
Mimms (Fairfax, Iowa) is a two-time Iowa State Champion with Xavier High School. He averaged 15.5 points, five assists and 2.3 steals per game as a junior.

Jacks Fifth at Cayman Islands Classic
South Dakota State took fifth at the inaugural Cayman Islands Classic, closing the tournament with wins over Iowa and Buffalo after falling in its first game to Wyoming.

Reed Tellinghuisen was named to the Cayman Classic All-Tournament Team, averaging 12.7 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. Mike Daum led all Jackrabbits with 54 total points at the tournament, hitting double figures all three games, including a season-best 34 against Buffalo.

David Jenkins Jr. shot 41.2 percent (7 of 17) beyond the arc, adding 14.7 points and 4.7 rebounds per game while Tevin King, playing 26.3 minutes per game, dished out five assists, came up with eight steals, scored 31 points (10.3 ppg) and grabbed 17 rebounds (5.7 per game).

No. 12 Cincinnati won the tournament, beating Wyoming in the finals.

Preseason All-Conference Team; Jacks Picked First
Mike Daum and Reed Tellinghuisen made repeat appearances on the Summit League's Preseason All-League teams, announced early-October. Daum was the Preseason Player of the Year with First Team honors while Tellinghuisen picked a Second Team nod for the second straight season.

Daum is the second Jackrabbit to be named Preseason All-Conference and the first to do it twice, joining Nate Wolters (2012-13).

As a team, South Dakota State was picked to win the league for the fourth time in program history.

SDSU Last Time Out (Jan. 6, 2018)
OMAHA, Neb. -- Five Jackrabbits scored in double figures as South Dakota State cruised to a 101-88 win at Omaha Saturday night inside Baxter Arena.

SDSU (14-5, 2-0 Summit League) has won five straight and finished 35-of-61 (57.4 percent) from the field with 13 3-pointers. The Jackrabbits also went 18-of-20 at the free throw line.

Mike Daum posted his eighth double-double of the season, scoring 27 points with 11 rebounds while hitting all six of his free throw attempts. He has hit 22 straight over the last two contests.

David Jenkins Jr. hit four 3-pointers and joined Daum above the 20-point margin, finishing with 22 and five rebounds.

Reed Tellinghuisen and Tevin King added 16 and 15 points, respectively, and Skyler Flatten matched his career-high of four 3-pointers on his way to a 12-point game.

Omaha (5-13, 0-2) shot 44.1 percent as a team and were led by Zach Jackson's 29 points.

The Jackrabbits missed their first five shots, but drilled nine of their next 10 en route to a 22-8 lead seven minutes into the game.

With 1:09 to go in the half, Omaha made it a nine-point contest behind a Jackson 3-pointer, but Tellinghuisen connected from deep on the final two possessions and sent the Jackrabbits to the locker room with a 50-35 lead.

State picked up where it left off in the second, pushing its advantage to 20 quickly out of the break before tearing off on a 15-2 rally midway through the half to take its largest lead of the night, 88-59, near the eight-minute mark.

Omaha cut it to 12 (97-85) with 1:29 remaining, but any comeback hopes were dashed as free throws from Jenkins and King down the stretch sealed the win.

TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts men's basketball team led for more than 30 minutes and by as many as 22 points on Saturday as the Golden Eagles beat Western Illinois 81-66 to move to 3-0 in Summit League play.

Emmanuel Nzekwesi and Javan White again led the way for the Golden Eagles as the duo combined for 22 of ORU's 44 rebounds, including 10 offensive boards. In addition to his 10 rebounds, Nzekwesi scored 21 points for his fourth straight double-double. White scored 11 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, his 10th double digit rebounding effort and seventh double-double of the year. R.J. Fuqua dropped in 18 points while Albert Owens scored 10.

Dalan Ancrum scored 25 points for Western Illinois, while Brandon Gilbeck had a team-high nine rebounds to go with 11 points and five blocks. Kobe Webster scored 18 points.

ORU dominated the glass to a 44-25 rebounding advantage, including 19 offensive rebounds, which led to 25 second chance points. ORU also had 10 steals on 12 WIU turnovers, which gave ORU another 25 points off turnovers.
