FELTON, Del. — The South Dakota State University equestrian team found success in reining, but the Jackrabbits dropped a pair of head-to-head competitions Saturday at the Dovington Training Center. The Jackrabbits dropped a 13-6 decision to UC Davis and later fell by a 12-6 count to host Delaware State.

UC DAVIS 13, SOUTH DAKOTA STATE 6
SDSU found itself in an early hole against UC Davis as the first half of the competition was contested on Friday with the Aggies racing out to a 9-1 lead.
Hannah Steele earned the lone point for the Jackrabbits by winning her fences matchup against Kayla Wolfe, 68-66.

UC Davis won all five horsemanship matchups Friday, but the Jackrabbits claimed three points in flat on Saturday and were able to split the four points awarded in reining. In flat,
Rachel Head (82),
Margaret Franke (81) and
Julia Werkhoven (73.5) picked up points for the Jackrabbits.

Natalie Gydesen (70.5) and
Lydia Loken (63.5) claimed their individual matchups in reining, while
Amelia Nelson tied in her matchup with a score of 63.

DELAWARE STATE 12, SOUTH DAKOTA STATE 6
The Jackrabbits won two matchups in both reining and flat, but came up on the short end of their head-to-head competition against Delaware State.

In reining, Gydesen claimed her second point of the daywith a score of 66.5, while
Isabelle Riggs added a victory with a score of 70.5. Two other matchups resulted in ties with no points awarded as
Cassandra Townsend registered a team-best 71.5 and Nelson turned in a score of 69.

Steele also notched her second victory of the weekend with a score of 81 in flat, while
Julia Werkhoven tallied the other point with a score of 82.

Callyn Fox rounded out the SDSU effort with a point-scoring 73.5 in horsemanship.
