MARTIN, Tenn. — UT Martin dominated the first half of its head-to-head equestrian competition against South Dakota State Friday and went on to defeat the Jackrabbits, 14-6, at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Pavilion.

The 10th-ranked Skyhawks improved to 6-7 in head-to-head meets, while SDSU dropped to 3-7.

UTM swept the first event of the day, winning all five matchups in fences, highlighted by an 83-point ride by Julia Gilman, who earned Most Outstanding Performer honors.

The Jackrabbits picked up their lone point of the first half of the competition as Grace Blake scored 73.5 points in her horsemanship matchup.

SDSU claimed three of the five points in flat, including an MOP performance by Margaret Franke, who tallied the highest score of any competitor with 87.5 points. Also earning individual victories were Cali Karbler and Julia Werkhoven with respective scores of 76 and 72.5 points.

In the final event of the day, Natalie Gydesen and Lydia Loken recorded victories for the Jackrabbits in reining. Gydesen posted a team-best score of 70.5 points, while Loken tallied 67.5 points to edge her UTM opponent.
