South Dakota State posted slim advantages in fences and horsemanship to come away with a 10-9 victory over Delaware State in a women's equestrian head-to-head competition Friday at the DeHaan Equestrian Center.

The Jackrabbits improved to 2-6 overall and 2-2 in the ECAC. Delaware State dropped to 3-5 overall and 2-2 against ECAC opponents.

Rachel Darby led SDSU's 3-2 edge in fences by earning Most Outstanding Performer honors with a score of 85 on Eddie to win her matchup with the Hornets' Maranda McCarthy. Ella Domenicone (84) and Samantha Hunsecker (77) also were victorious for the Jackrabbits in the fences competition.

The competition was tied at 7-all heading into the final event of the day, horsemanship. The Jackrabbits sealed the victory by winning each of the first three matchups, including an MOP performance by Shelby Cochran with a score of 75 on Marshal. Callyn Fox set the tone in the even with a winning score of 71 and Paige Wellendorf capped the winning streak with another winning score of 71.

The Jackrabbits and Delaware State split the reining competition. Lydia Loken (73) and Isabelle Riggs (71) were the winners for SDSU, while freshman Adisyn Kuxhaus tied in her matchup with the Hornets' Aidan Stetzer with a score of 68.

Delaware State held the upper hand in flat, highlighted by a meet-best score of 89 by MOP Olivia Brown. Hannah Steele (85) and Cali Karbler (82) posted the Jackrabbits' two victories in the event.

UP NEXT
The Jackrabbits close out the weekend by hosting Minnesota Crookston in head-to-head competition on Saturday. Anticipated start time is 10:30 a.m., following the completion of the final two events of the meet between UMC and Delaware State.
