DANBURY, Conn. — South Dakota State's Hannah Steele has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Equestrian Rider of the Week for fences after recording a pair of victories in season-opening action.

A senior from Woodstock, Georgia, Steele tallied a score of 84 in winning her head-to-head matchup against Olivia Ferro of Fresno State in the Jackrabbits' Oct. 4 season opener at the DeHaan Equestrian Center. She followed that performance by earning Most Outstanding Performer honors a day later in a matchup against UT Martin's Gabby Adams while posting an 87-78 victory.

Steele also won both of her matchups in flat to give her a 4-0 overall record on the weekend.

In addition, Steele was recently named the National Collegiate Equestrian Association's Student-Athlete of the Month. She is a business economics major who has been honored each of the past two seasons on the NCEA All-Academic First Team.
