The South Dakota State equestrian team snagged its third win of the season and second against Minnesota Crookston with an 11-6 Senior Day victory over the Golden Eagles Saturday afternoon at the DeHaan Equestrian Center.
South Dakota State finished the regular season with a 3-8 overall record in head-to-head competition and 3-3 against ECAC opponents.
Senior Hannah Steele picked up both jumping seat Most Outstanding Performer awards in her final home meet and scored a season-high 91-point ride in the flat discipline. Grace Gerbus (horsemanship) and Emma Riggs (reining) completed SDSU's sweep of the MOP awards.
South Dakota State took the flat discipline 3-2 after dropping the first two head-to-head matches. Steele tallied a 91-73 victory over Kaylynn Berry.
Elizabeth Wagner took down Avery Crook, 72-55, while Kayla Scherer rounded out the meet with a 73-point ride, beating Belle Syrett by two points. For UMC, Kristen Borchet earned a win over Sierra Elliott, 63-54, and Alexandra Wentland finished with an 80-79 win over Kendyl Rudolf.
Fences featured two SDSU riders notching a score of 80 with Samantha Aisenberg and Steele accomplishing the feat. Aisenberg took a win over Crook, 80-55, while Steele tallied her first fences win of the spring season. The senior's 80-74 victory earned her the MOPÂ award in fences.
Sarah Gould took down Wentland, 75-73, Juliana Gullo and Kristen Borchert tied at 78, while Berry earned Minnesota Crookston's sole point of the discipline against Isabelle Malick 77-74.
The Golden Eagles took horsemanship with a head-to-head finish of 2-1. Gerbus recorded a 74-71.5 victory over Hailey Hanson which was SDSU's only point of the discipline.
Hannah Dutton and Paige Wellendorf tied their opponents with scores of 73 and 72.5, respectively. Minnesota Crookston's Emma Mutnansky beat Anna Minich, 74.5-73, while the Jackrabbits' McKenna Hooyer fell to Ava Glenn 73-70.5.
SDSU took reining with a dominant 4-1 score. Riggs notched the first point for the Jacks with a ride of 71 to beat Marley Halse, 71-67.5. Senior Lydia Loken would follow suit and snag the second point with a 69-68.5 victory over Samantha Lyons of Minnesota Crookston.
Golden Eagle rider Madison Wachtel took a narrow win over Adisyn Kuxhaus, 69.5-69, while Lillie Wallis (win over Hanson 69.5-69) and Ada Hirschfeld (win over Madison Wojcek 70.5-66.5) gathered two more points for the Jackrabbits..
