BROOKINGS, S.D. - South Dakota State volleyball handled North Dakota State in dominant fashion Saturday, sweeping the Bison 25-23, 25-18, 25-14 at First Bank & Trust Arena.
The Jackrabbits improve to 23-1 on the season and 12-1 in the Summit League with three regular season matches remaining. NDSU falls to 10-13 overall and 6-8 in conference matches.
SDSU posted a 52-38 advantage in total points scored by way of a 42-31 edge in kills and 5-1 lead in ace serves. The Bison recorded six blocks to SDSU's five rejections. SDSU hit .233 for the match, including .306 in the second set, and held NDSU to a .114 clip.
Madison Burr hit .600 with seven kills and added three digs, two blocks, two assists and an ace serve.
Sylvie Zgonc led all players with 12 kills and contributed five digs and a pair of block assists.
Sydni Schetnan hit .368 with eight blocks and three blocks, followed by
Katie Van Egdom's six kills.
Rylee Martin gave out 17 assists, putting her over 1,000 assists for her SDSU career. The sophomore also had two ace serves, bringing her season total to 34. That mark is tied for third place on SDSU's single-season aces chart for the current scoring era.
Joslyn Richardson paced the defense with 10 digs
Alexis Boling and Arianna Blohm recorded seven kills apiece for NDSU. Blohm also had four blocks.
Set one: The Bison led 6-2 in the opening set, then a 7-0 run with Zgonc on the service line put the Jacks ahead, 9-6. NDSU tied the set at 13 and again at 16 and 17 before the Jacks took the lead for good on a kill by Schetnan. SDSU maintained its lead and Schetnan had the final kill of the set to win 25-23.
Set two: The Jacks worked their way out to a three-point lead at 17-14, then a four-point stretch made it 21-14. Zgonc had two kills during the run, then took part in a kill that made it 22-15. Van Egdom and Burr added kills to set up set point, then Zgonc put down her seventh kill of the match to win set two.
Set three: SDSU raced out to a 9-2 lead capped by a Martin ace, then another 5-0 run made it 14-3. The Jacks rolled from there, winning the final set by 11 points.
