FARGO, N.D. — South Dakota State ends its 2023-24 regular season on the road Saturday when the Jackrabbits take on North Dakota State inside the Scheels Center. The Jacks and Bison are slated for a 1 p.m. tipoff.Â
Â
The Jackrabbits sealed the No. 1 seed at the upcoming Summit League Men's Basketball Championship tournament with their 72-62 victory over North Dakota in Grand Forks on Thursday. The win also gave SDSU its ninth Summit League regular season title all of which have come in the previous 12 seasons.Â
Â
Thursday's contest in the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center pitted the two teams atop The Summit League standings. SDSU was 10-4 in conference play while North Dakota was 9-5. The Fighting Hawks held a 33-23 lead late in the first half, but a seven-point scoring run for SDSU cut the deficit to 33-30 at the break.Â
Â
South Dakota State used an 11-0 run to claim its first lead of the second half at 44-37 with 16 minutes left. UND regained the advantage at 53-50, however a 9-0 stretch for the Jackrabbits put SDSU ahead for good. The Fighting Hawks cut the deficit to 61-58 with 5:25 remaining, but a
Zeke Mayo 3-pointer pushed the margin into multiple possessions for the rest of the contest.Â
Â
South Dakota State's victory over North Dakota was its 17th straight in the series. SDSU has won 21 of the last 22 meetings over UND.Â
Â
SDSU is currently on a four-game winning streak. The stretch is its longest of the season with three separate three-game win streaks halted during the 2023-24 campaign.Â
Â
The Jackrabbits and Bison meet for the second time this season following an exciting first matchup. SDSU and NDSU met in Brookings on Feb. 1 in Frost Arena. The Jackrabbits trailed 65-62 late in regulation when a Mayo 3-pointer tied the score with 10 seconds remaining. SDSU was up 73-72 when an NDSU tip-in off a missed jumper propelled the BIson to a 74-73 win.Â
Â
SDSU is 113-123 all-time against NDSU. The Jacks trail 68-39 in the series in Fargo. SDSU lost 65-59 in the Scheels Center a season ago.Â
