SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — South Dakota State begins its journey in the 2024 Summit League Men's Basketball Championship tournament on Saturday at 6 p.m. in Sioux Falls at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center. The Jackrabbits await the winner of Friday's No. 8-No.9 seeded game between Oral Roberts and South Dakota.Â
Â
The Jackrabbits head into the conference tournament as the No. 1 seed following a 12-4 record in Summit League play. SDSU sealed the top spot in the standings thanks to a final road trip of the regular season that saw the Jacks earn a 72-62 victory at North Dakota, followed by a 78-61 win over North Dakota State.Â
Â
SDSU claimed its ninth Summit League regular season championship with its Feb. 29 victory in Grand Forks. The Jackrabbits' nine Summit League crowns come in the last 12 seasons with seven achieved in an active eight-season span. SDSU's nine titles tie Valparaiso for most in the conference's history.
Â
South Dakota State looks to earn its seventh tournament championship when the Jacks trek to Sioux Falls for the 2024 tournament. SDSU has previously won the Summit League Championship in 2022, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2013 and 2012. The Jacks have the most titles among active men's programs in the conference and only trail Valpo's record of eight.
Â
SDSU is currently on a five-game winning streak heading into the tournament. The stretch is its longest of the season with three separate three-game win streaks halted during the 2023-24 campaign.Â
Â
South Dakota State is 25-9 all-time at The Summit League Tournament. The Jackrabbits will see a quarterfinal opponent in either ORU or USD they have history with in Sioux Falls. The Jacks are 2-1 in the tournament against the Golden Eagles with their last meeting in 2021 a 90-88 loss to ORU. SDSU holds a 4-0 mark over the Coyotes, including their last meeting an 83-60 semifinal win in 2022.
Â
In terms of the regular season matchups, the Jacks won 73-55 in Vermillion over the Yotes on Jan. 20, then narrowly won again 70-67 on Feb. 4 in Brookings. SDSU and ORU split their contests with the Golden Eagles winning 87-82 at home and the Jackrabbits earning an 83-72 win in Frost Arena.
