GREELEY, Colo. – Two South Dakota State freshmen scored their first collegiate goals as the Jackrabbit women's soccer team shut out Northern Colorado, 2-0, in a non-conference meeting at Jackson Stadium on Monday.Â
Â
South Dakota State were on the attack for a majority of the first half and had multiple opportunities before finding the back of the net.Â
Â
Following a Northern Colorado corner kick,
Mia Bosch sent a pass up field past the Northern Colorado back row. The ball ended up in the possession of forward
Adrianne Agbayani who dribbled towards the UNC goal. Bears goalkeeper Kaya Lindberg made an initial save on an Agbayani attempt, but the SDSU freshman got the ball back and easily booted it into the back corner of the goal to put the Jackrabbits up 1-0 in the 26th minute.Â
Â
SDSU held an 8-1 edge in shots after the opening 45 minutes as a stout defense of
Katherine Jones,
Hayley Lindaman and
Kaycee Manding kept Northern Colorado in check.Â
Â
The Jackrabbits put the game out of reach at the start of the second half when Bosch was awarded a penalty kick after she drew a foul in the UNC box. She knocked her attempt past the diving Lindberg to give SDSU a 2-0 advantage in the 52nd minute.Â
Â
From there the Jacks thwarted any comeback bid by the Bears. SDSU goalkeeper
Stephanie Leckwold made two diving saves during the match's final 45 minutes to preserve the first clean sheet of her college career.
Â
South Dakota State held off Northern Colorado to complete the 2-0 victory. The Jackrabbits picked up their first win of the season, improving to 1-1. Northern Colorado dropped to 0-2 overall.Â
