DENVER - South Dakota State volleyball improved to 2-0 in Summit League action Thursday night with a 3-1 win over Denver at Hamilton Gymnasium.
The Jackrabbits improve to 8-3 on the season while Denver moves to 10-4 overall and 2-1 in conference action.
SDSU had three players finish with double-digit kills, paced by
Sylvie Zgonc with 16. The junior also posted her eighth double-double of the season as she tallied a team-high 10 digs.
Madison Burr matched her career high with 14 kills while hitting .468 out of the middle. She also took part in five blocks on the night.
Hannah Klein added 11 kills.
Rylee Martin gave out 43 assists to go with six digs, three kills and two block assists.
Sydni Schetnan led the defense with seven block assists and one solo rejection. She also had six kills.

Joslyn Richardson contributed nine digs, two assists and an ace serve. SDSU had seven aces in total - two from Zgonc,
Rachel Wieber and
Maggie Meister, in addition to Richardson's one.
Denver's Ava Reynolds set a new career high with 20 kills.
Set one: Denver opened the match with a 7-2 lead, forcing an early Jackrabbit timeout. Zgonc notched a kill out of the break to end a 6-0 run by the Pioneers. Five straight points by the Jackrabbits tied the set at eight and SDSU dominated from there. SDSU stretched its lead to as many as seven following a Zgonc ace that made it 22-15. Denver pulled back to within four before Schetnan ended the set with a kill. SDSU's middles combined for seven kills on 10 swings in the opening set.
Set two: The Jacks led 8-6 in the second set, the Denver put together a 6-1 run to go up 12-9. The Pioneers maintained that lead and led 19-14. The Jackrabbits used both allotted timeouts during a Denver run. Out of the second break, kills from Martin and Schetnan and then a block by Schetnan and Ventling-Brown brought SDSU back within two at 19-17. The Jacks were within one at 22-21, then Denver ended the set with three straight points.
Set three: Denver blocked SDSU three times during a 5-2 start to the third set. Aces from Wieber and Zgonc helped the Jacks tie the set at 6-6. Meister notched a pair of aces during a 6-0 Jackrabbit stretch to put SDSU ahead 14-11. The Pioneers worked back to tie the set at 18 and again at 22, then took the lead at 23-22. The Jacks immediately went back up on back-to-back blocks from Schetnan. Tied at 25, SDSU won the set with a kill from Burr, then a block from Burr and Martin. SDSU had five aces during set three with two from Wieber, two from Meister and one from Zgonc.
Set four: The Jacks opened up a 7-4 lead behind a kill from Richardson and a pair of kills apiece by Klein and Burr. The teams traded points throughout the set but the Jacks maintained their edge, then scored five of the final six points to win the match. Schetnan and Ventling-Brown teamed up to notch SDSU's 13th block of the contest for the final point.
NOTES
- Rylee Martin surpassed 1,500 career assists during the match.
- The victory marked SDSU's first win on an opponent's home floor this year. It was Denver's first home loss of the season.
