MARTIN, Tenn. — UT Martin held 4-1 advantages in three different events to record a 15-5 victory over South Dakota State in collegiate equestrian competition Friday at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Complex.
The host Skyhawks improved to 2-1 both overall and in ECAC competition. SDSU dropped to 2-3 overall and 2-2 against ECAC opponents in settling for a split of the season series with UT Martin.
SDSU's most success Friday came in horsemanship as Brighton McBride and Anna Minich were both victorious. McBride notched a 73.5-72 victory over Claire Carpenter, while Minich clipped Olivia Wynn, 72.5-72.
Senor Adisyn Kuxhaus tallied the only point in reining for the Jackrabbits with a score of 71 en route to a two-point win against Stevie Brown. Emma Riggs shared team-high honors with a 71, but was downed by a single point by the Skyhawks' Abby Tibbits.
In the jumping seat events, Juliana Gullo posted the top scores in both fences and flat for the Jackrabbits. She earned the lone SDSU point in fences with a score of 82 to defeat Daphne Stavig by five points in their matchup. Gullo later was awarded a score of 84 in flat, but dropped a two-point decision to MOP Kat DeGenova.
Freshman Heidi White picked up the Jackrabbits' point in flat by winning her matchup against Audrey Morris, 79-74.
UT Martin also swept the Most Outstanding Performer awards in the head-to head competition.
The Jackrabbits also competed against second-ranked South Carolina on Friday, with the Gamecocks holding a 9-2 advantage through three of the four events. A full recap meet will be available after the fences competition at 9 a.m. Saturday.
