BROOKINGS, S.D. - The South Dakota State volleyball team swept Kansas City 25-16, 25-18, 25-18 Thursday night at First Bank & Trust Arena.
The Jackrabbits held the Roos to a .041 hitting percentage and posted a 41-24 advantage in total kills for the night. SDSU also had a 9-4 edge in aces, including the match winner from
Hannah Klein.
Klein tallied five aces on the night, one shy of the program record for a three-set match. The freshman had two during a 4-0 run in the second set.
Joslyn Richardson finished with three aces serves, two of which came as the Jackrabbits started the contest with a 6-0 run.
SDSU middles
Sydni Schetnan and
Madison Burr recorded 10 and nine kills, respectively, and both finished with hitting percentages above .410. Schetnan tied for the team lead with four blocks.
Rylee Martin directed the offense to a .248 hitting percentage and finished with 34 assists. She also had six digs and matched Schetnan's four blocks.
Sylvie Zgonc led all players with 11 kills and added six digs. Klein had seven kills and four digs.
Richardson posted 13 digs to go with her three ace serves. Freshman
Brooke Larsen was also in double figures and set a new career high with 10 digs.
As a team, Kansas City finished with eight total blocks. The Roos were paced by Ledisi Kpea with six blocks (four assists, two solo) and Stella Smith with five block assists). Ryanne Wattree had eight kills for lead the offense.
NOTES
South Dakota State's win over Kansas City is the 1000th in program history. The Jackrabbits are 1,000-824 all time.
