TAGG, DEVOS AND BERGE WIN FIRST ROUND MATCHES

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Julian Tagg, Cade DeVos and Bennett Berge took their first-round matchups during Session One of the NCAA Championships.

Julian Tagg was the first Jackrabbit to score a win during Session One as he took down No. 15 Joseph Olivieri (RU). Tagg scored early and often against Olivieri with takedowns in the first period and third period, on his way to a 13-3 major decision over Olivieri. He'll take on No. 2 Beau Bartlett of Penn State in the second round.

In his first-round matchup, Cade DeVos faced off with No. 20 Dan Braunagel of Illinois. DeVos scored a first-round takedown to hold a 4-0 lead going into the third. Braunagel fired back with a takedown and an escape in the third. But DeVos was able to score a takedown with 10 seconds left to take the decision, 5-4. He'll take on Garrett Thompson of Ohio in the second round.

No. 5 Bennett Berge took on No. 28 Dennis Robin of West Virginia in the first round. Berge scored two takedowns in the first and didn't look back, racking up points on his way to an 8-2 decision over Robin. He'll take on No.12 Silas Allred of Nebraska in the second round.

Elsewhere, No. 30 Derrick Cardinal gave No. 3 Nasir Bailey of Little Rock a run for his money in their opening-round matchup. After going down 6-1, Cardinal battled back to tie the score up 8-8 before dropping the match 9-8 by a riding time point.

The Jacks are back in action at the NCAA Tournament during session two, which begins at 6 p.m. CT.
