GENEVA, Ohio — Six Jackrabbits earned spots on the podium at the U20 World Team Trials and U23 U.S. Nationals.
The weekend opened up with Greco-Roman competition, where five members of the Jackrabbit Wrestling Club would compete. The JWC brought home two All-Americans in the U23 Greco-Roman Nationals in Kenton Cooke and Jared Thiry, as they went 5-2 and 3-2, respectively, finishing fifth and seventh. US Open Champ Quin Morgan dropped the first two of a three-match series with Soren Herzog, finishing second at the World Team Trials.
Saturday opened up the Freestyle Competition, where Morgan added another All-American honor, finishing third in the World Team Trials at 97kg, avenging his Greco-Roman losses to Herzog with a tech fall in the third-place match.
On the U23 side of Freestyle, Daniel Guanajuato, Thomas Dineen, and Moses Espinoza-Owens all made runs deep into their respective divisions' brackets.
Daniel Guanajuato went 5-2 for the weekend and scored a decision over two-time National Qualifier Brendan McCrone to advance to Sunday's best two out of three finals, where he dropped both matches to Mason Ziegler, finishing second in the 57 kg bracket.
Thomas Dineen made some noise in the 97 kg bracket as he took down the returning U23 champion, Massoma Endene, a transfer to the University of Iowa, 3-3 on a tiebreaker. Dineen dropped the first two of three matches in the finals to finish second in his bracket.
Moses Espinoza-Owens made a deep run in the 79 kg bracket, taking down two-time National Qualifier Brody Baumann before dropping his quarterfinal matchup. After scoring a decision over Cael Valencia and racking up another tech fall over Ryan Ford, Espinoza-Owens dropped a tech fall to Ethan Riddle, to land in the fifth place, where he would come back from an early deficit, to score a 7-3 decision and take fifth in a super competitive 79 kg bracket.
