MANHATTAN, Kan. - The South Dakota State men's golf team finished runner-up at the Wildcat Invitational Tuesday as four Jackrabbits placed in the top-16 on the individual leaderboard.
"We had some amazing fight this week from this group," said head coach
Parker Edens. "This was a complete team effort. We faced so much adversity this week with weather delays and they handled them so well. These guys were resilient all week and they were rewarded with a great week."
The SDSU squad went 3-under on the final round, the best of all teams, to move into runner-up position. The Jacks finished with an 870 (+6) team tally, only five shots behind tournament host Kansas State.Â
"Going toe-to-toe with a Big 12 school that was ranked 55th in the country at the end of the year last year, on their home course, is a huge reflection of where we are to start the year," Edens added. "Shooting the lowest round of the day and the only under par round of the day should give these boys more confidence. It's a great day to be a Jackrabbit!"
Bryson Mercier finished in a three-way tie for fifth place to pace the Jackrabbits. He went 1-under over three rounds and was just three strokes off the top of the leaderboard.
Drew Teeter also recorded a top-ten finish. He fired his best round of the tournament on the final lap, an even-par 72, and ended up +2 for 54 holes.
Tyler Seeling was one shot back and tied for 12th place.
Ty Adkins tied for 16th place with a +4 scorecard.
Jake Olson tied for 39th place (+11).
