WACO, Texas – South Dakota State had the score tied at 1-1 midway through its game versus Baylor on Tuesday, Feb. 10, but the Bears scored nine runs over a two-inning span to beat the Jackrabbits 10-2 at Getterman Stadium. The victory for the host Bears came by run rule.

SDSU starting pitcher Amanda Vacanti threw a solid opening three innings. She allowed an unearned run in the first, pitched a 1-2-3 second frame, then escaped a bases-loaded jam in the third to keep it 1-0 heading to the fourth.

Akayla Barnard led the fourth inning off with a double to give the Jacks their first hit of the ballgame. Following two consecutive outs, Barnard was plated on an RBI single by Emma Christensen to tie the score at 1-1.

Baylor broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth. The Bears' Amber Toven hit a grand slam as a part of a seven-run inning to push Baylor's advantage to 8-1.

The Jackrabbits began the fifth with Alivya Bollen and Vacanti each drawing walks, followed by a Bria Riebel single, to load the bases. Emma Vike added a run to the SDSU tally by hitting a sacrifice fly, but SDSU eventually left three runners on base.

The Bears wrapped the meeting up in the fifth inning. Baylor recorded two runs on three hits to end the game behind a 10-2 score.

Vacanti was credited the with the loss and dropped to 1-2 on the season. Hailey Herman and Madi Mangulis also made appearances in the circle for the Jackrabbits.

South Dakota State heads to Abilene, Texas, next to face Abilene Christian. The Jackrabbits and Wildcats play a doubleheader on Wednesday beginning at 2 p.m.
