SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – South Dakota State sophomore
Amanda Vacanti was recognized as the Kwik Star Summit League Softball Peak Performer of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Vacanti was stellar at the plate for the Jackrabbits in their showing at the Velvet Milkman Classic in Murray, Ky., from Feb. 20-21. She went 8-for-12 (.667) over the course of four games with a hit in all four appearances. She had a three-hit performance in the team's opening win of the event against Green Bay.
The next day in victories over Green Bay and IU Indy, Vacanti hit a combined three home runs. She had four RBIs and two runs apiece in the two games. On the weekend, Vacanti produced nine RBIs and scored five runs as SDSU completed a 3-1 stay at Racer Field.
The weekly honor is the first for Vacanti in her college career. The Wentworth, S.D., native is currently leading SDSU this season in batting average (.485) and slugging percentage (1.030) in her 13 games played in.
The Jackrabbits travel to the Tulsa area this weekend to participate in the OSU/Tulsa Invitational. SDSU begins action against the host Golden Hurricane at noon on Friday.
